We serve a supernatural Savior. Jesus Christ came to this fallen planet to “destroy the works of the devil.” He is our supernatural Savior. Hebrews 2:4 says, “And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.”
Throughout the four Gospels Jesus Christ performed many supernatural miracles:
• He healed the sick
• He opened blinded eyes
• He cleansed the leper
• He made the lame to walk again
• He restored the broken
• He raised the dead back to life again
• He redeemed the lost from destruction
The One who performed these supernatural signs and wonders is the “same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).
He is still working supernatural miracles in the lives of His people.
The Cambridge Dictionary defines supernatural “forces or events that cannot be explained by science.” Michael Anderson writes in an article, The Biblical Significance of the Supernatural, “When we think of the supernatural, we often envision mysterious and unexplainable occurrences that transcend the natural world. In the Bible, the supernatural is a realm where the divine intersects with the earthly, revealing God’s power and presence in ways that are beyond human understanding.”[I]
We are called to be a supernatural people. Mark 16:20 says, “And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following.” We are not called to mundane Christianity. Dr. Frank Damazio writes, “The church cannot sacrifice the joy of a living faith for the security of a predictable religion and spiritual mediocrity.”[ii] There has been a progressive paring down of the miraculous element in the Bible. We are called for more. We must pursue more in our walk and relationship with the Lord.
