Who is This Baby?

Who is This Baby?       Christmas is a holiday that celebrates the arrival of a baby! Not just any baby, but a special baby born in a small Middle-eastern village some two thousand years ago. On that first Christmas night shepherds came to see this special baby lying in a manger. The Magi from the East followed a bright star to the place of this child’s birth.       Who was this newborn infant? Who was this baby born to a young unmarried teenage girl on a cold Judean winter’s night? This baby was not just another baby born on this rebellious planet! This baby was more than what was discernible with the human eyes. The Word of God gives us insight into who this baby was:        Luke 2:8-14 - “And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel of the Lord said unto them, fear not: for, beh

Devotion - Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem

Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem Psalms 122             This Psalm is a Psalm of David.  In these scriptures he writes about the joy of going to the House of the Lord.  Verse 1 reads,  “I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord.’”   He continues in verse 6 with this admonition.   “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May they prosper who love you.’” Why does the Bible encourage us to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem?”  Jerusalem was the one place among the twelve tribes of Israel that God chose to place His name.  Deuteronomy 12:5 reads,  “But you shall seek the place where the Lord your God chooses, out of all your tribes, to put His name for His dwelling place; and there you shall go.” The Lord promises blessing to those who are a blessing to His covenant people.  God spoke these words to Abraham in Genesis 12:3,  “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” The

The Feast of Tabernacles

The Feast of Tabernacles In the Twenty-third chapter of Leviticus the Lord spoke to Moses about establishing seven major feasts.   Leviticus 23:1-2 reads, “And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ‘ Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them:   ‘the feasts of the LORD, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, these are My feasts.’” The first of these seven feasts is Passover. Passover always comes in the first month of the year on the Hebrew religious calendar.   The seventh and last of the feasts comes in the fall of the year in the seventh month.   It is the Feast of Tabernacles. Although there are a total of seven feasts (the divine number for perfection or completeness in the Bible), God divided the seven festivals into three major festival seasons. Every male was to present themselves before the Lord three times in a year in each festival group.   The Jewish male would travel to Jerusalem for Passover in the spring, Pentecost at the end of spring, and the

The Most Solemn Day on Israel's Calendar - Yom Kippur

In the Twenty-third chapter of Leviticus the Lord spoke to Moses about establishing seven major feasts. The first of these seven feasts was Passover. Passover always comes in the first month of the year on the Hebrew religious calendar. This month is known as Abib in the Old Testament book of Deuteronomy, but later came to be known as Nissan after the Babylonian captivity.   Although there are a total of seven feasts (the divine number for perfection or completeness in the Bible), God divided the seven festivals into three major festival seasons. Every male was to present themselves before the Lord three times in a year in each festival group.   The Jewish male would travel to Jerusalem for Passover in the spring, Pentecost at the end of spring, and the Feast of Tabernacles in the fall.   The fall festival season consisted of Rosh Ha Shana (Trumpets), The Day of Atonement, and Tabernacles. Rosh Ha Shana comes on the first day of the month of Tishri and begins the Ten Days of Awe

Royal Birth

Royal Birth             On Monday, July 23, 2013, the world’s eyes were on Saint Mary’s Hospital in London, England.   They were awaiting the arrival of a new royal baby.   The baby was the first child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge; third in royal succession to the throne of England.             This baby, Prince George Alexander, Louise, is destined to serve as the future king of England.   He is born into wealth and privilege.   This baby will have the very best of care.   No doubt he will have nurses and nannies to oversee his care.   He will have tutors, go to exclusive schools, and receive training in the traditions of what it means to be of royal dissent.               We have learned from news reports that this baby would be third in royal succession to the throne of England.   Why all the attention of news media and outlets from around the world?   Why the pomp and circumstance?   Perhaps it is a fascination with the monarchy and the trappings of royalty.

Prayer for Financial Breakthrough

Heavenly Father, We give You love, glory, and honor. We declare that You are worthy of praise. We, at South Greenwood PHC, join together in steadfast faith as we lift our fasting and prayer to You (Matt 6). We thank You for sending Your Son to conquer all things for us, causing us to be more than conquerors (Rom. 8:37). We thank You that, in His name, power is released for all that we need (Mark 16:17). We know You reward those who diligently seek You (Heb. 11:6). We rejoice that You are eager to answer prayer and that You delight in answering prayer (Gen. 15:2; Matt. 6:13). We bind the spirit of poverty and loose the finances necessary to operate all ministries at SGPHC (Mal. 3:10; Deut. 2:7; Deut. 8:18) We ask that Your truth penetrate every mindset hindering Your progress at SGPHC. We ask that obedience to Your word in giving be established and strengthened (Mal.3).  Cause Your people to see the truth about being faithful to You as You are always faithful to them.
