Prayer for the Election - Historic Shift

Heavenly Father, We exalt You knowing You are God and You are gracious and merciful (Neh. 9:31).   Our hope is in You (Ps. 31:24) and we trust in You (Ps. 118:9).   We petition You as the Head of all things (Eph. 1:22) asking for a historic shift in our nation concerning the election on November 6, 2012.   We call for truth and righteousness to be revealed in every issue having an effect on American citizens, for we know Your word says that righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people (Prov. 14:34) We ask for a holy disturbance regarding humanism and socialism trends in our nation (1Chron. 12:32; Isaiah 59:15). We ask for a holy disruption among those unwilling to follow Godly standards causing a renewed emphasis favoring Christian values (1 Cor. 6:9-20; Titus 2:12). We pray for all those who serve in our government. We pray for those who have righteousness seeded on the inside of them. We ask You to call forth that seed an

Prayer for Financial Breakthrough

Heavenly Father, We give You love, glory, and honor. We declare that You are worthy of praise. We, at South Greenwood PHC, join together in steadfast faith as we lift our fasting and prayer to You (Matt 6). We thank You for sending Your Son to conquer all things for us, causing us to be more than conquerors (Rom. 8:37). We thank You that, in His name, power is released for all that we need (Mark 16:17). We know You reward those who diligently seek You (Heb. 11:6). We rejoice that You are eager to answer prayer and that You delight in answering prayer (Gen. 15:2; Matt. 6:13). We bind the spirit of poverty and loose the finances necessary to operate all ministries at SGPHC (Mal. 3:10; Deut. 2:7; Deut. 8:18) We ask that Your truth penetrate every mindset hindering Your progress at SGPHC. We ask that obedience to Your word in giving be established and strengthened (Mal.3). Cause Your people to see the truth about being faithful to You as You are always faithful to them. Break the power of

Returning to the Altar of Prayer

Returning to the Altar of Prayer Matthew 21:12-15             For the last few weeks I have been burdened to pray for the state of the church, our nation, and the upcoming election.   We are living in perilous times.   I believe it is imperative that we return to the altar of prayer individually and corporately.                It is time to rebuild the altar of prayer.   God is calling His Church back to the place of prayer.   We must not just be a praying church, but become a House of Prayer.   We are faced with serious problems in our nation and society today.   Marriage is under assault.   Unemployment continues to affect millions in our nations.   The Middle East has become unstable and threatens to unleash violence and draw the nations of the earth into war.             The answers to the perplexing problems we face will not come from man.   We must pray and ask God for divine intervention into our society and into our personal lives.   In Matth

Rosh Hashanah - Entering into a New Season

Rosh Hashanah Entering into a New Season Leviticus 23:1-2 There are seven major feasts that God established with Israel in the Old Testament.  Leviticus 23:1-2 reads, “And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘The feasts of the Lord, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, these are My feasts.’” There are a total of seven feasts, but God divides the seven feasts into three major festival seasons. Every male was to present himself before the Lord three times a year in each festival group.  The Jewish male would travel to Jerusalem for Passover in the spring, Pentecost at the end of spring, and the Feast of Tabernacles in the fall.  The fall festival season consisted of Rosh Hashanah (Feast of Trumpets), The Day of Atonement, and Tabernacles. The fall feasts begin with Rosh Hashanah.  Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year.  The seven feasts are celebrated in two different se

A Man Bound Set Free

A Man Bound Set Free           In the fifth chapter of Mark we are introduced to a man possessed by demons.  Mark 5:2 reads, “And when he had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit.”  This man in bondage was destined to meet the Lord and experience deliverance.         Verse 5 reveals that he cried out in desperation.  He was tormented and tortured in his mind. He cut himself with stones and sharp instruments.  He lived among the tombs in the place of death.  The town officials didn’t know how to handle him.  As a matter of fact in some translations he is called the Maniac of Gadara.      They bound him with chains and fetters.  A fetter is a shackle that is designed for the feet.  They had tried to control him by wrapping him in chains and binding his feet.     We learn in Mark 5:3-4, “Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with chains, verse 4 – “because he had often been bound with shackle

Entering into Your Promised Possession

Entering into Your Promised Possession Joshua 1:1-8     We are living in an interesting time.  We are in a time of economic uncertainty and things are changing around us rapidly in our nation and world.  Like the children of Israel you have a promised inheritance.  I believe it is time to leave the wilderness and enter into your promised inheritance.     In Numbers 13 we learn that Israel was poised to enter into the land that God had promised to children of Israel.  Moses sent twelve spies in to spy out the land.  Ten of the twelve spies came back with an evil report and two of the twelve returned with a good report.  Listen to the words of Caleb in Numbers 13:30, “Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, ‘Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.'"    The children of Israel believed the bad report and never entered into their promised inheritance.  I must caution you today that when you get ready to possess your promised

Except We Be As Children

EXCEPT WE BE AS CHILDREN In the eighteenth chapter of Matthew the disciples asked an interesting question of Jesus. “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”   Many in the Body of Christ are still asking that same question today.   In our culture we tend to measure greatness in the Body of Christ by large numbers, beautiful buildings, and expensive budgets.   We tend to think that the greatest are the biggest and best.    Our society measures success and greatness by achievement and skill.   Although this is the method of our culture, it is not the method of measurement of the Word of God. In Matthew 18:3-4, The Lord shares His definition of greatness.   “… Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the Kingdom of Heaven."   Verse 4 continues, "Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” In order to be co

The Sixth Month - Access and Favor

The Sixth Month The Month of Access and Favor   To understand how God has created and orchestrates time we must understand how He measures time.   The Bible gives insight into how God works in time. He established the Hebrew Calendar in Exodus 12:2. “This month shall be your beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you.”  This calendar is on a different time cycle than the calendar of the western world, the Gregorian calendar.   The Hebrew Calendar is both a religious and a civil calendar. The Religious year begins at Passover in Nissan (March/April) and the civil year begins at Rosh Ha Shana in Tishri (September/October).   The Bible refers to Elul as the “sixth” month. Historically the following things took place during Elul: ·       God begins to work through Haggai the prophet –Haggai 1:1. ·       Ezekiel is given a vision from God, sees several abominations being committed by God’s people in the eighth chapter of Ezekie

The Miracle Worker

The Miracle Worker Hebrews 13:8     The Bible teaches that we serve an unchanging God.  Malachi the prophet wrote these words in Malachi 3:6.  “For I am the Lord, I do not change; therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.”  When everything around us is changing at an accelerated pace the Lord we love and serve does not change.     The news today is filled with rapid changes.  The rise and fall of regimes, economic and political changes.  The economy is good and then it is bad, but the God we serve never changes, and He never fails.  Man may fail you!  But God will never fail you.     Hebrews 13:8 offers these encouraging words, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”  We serve an unchanging God.  His love, His mercy, and His purpose have never changed.  The Lord Jesus Christ came to this earth for a purpose.  That purpose is found throughout the pages of the New Testament.  Here are a few of the Scriptures that define His purpose and mission: Matthew 1

A Divine Interruption

A Divine Interruption Luke 7:11-18     In this passage of Scripture there is a wonderful miracle that took place in the life of a lonely widow in the city of Nain.  Nain was located about ten miles southeast of Nazareth, just south of Mt. Tabor. It is about a day’s journey southwest of Capernaum, where Jesus had healed the Centurion’s servant.     This story is a story of conquest and compassion!  It is a demonstration of God’s miraculous power on behalf of a lonely widow who had lost her only son.  Verse 12 gives record of this widow’s plight, “A dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow.”      In our culture when we are passed by a funeral procession we pull over to the side of the road as a sign of respect.  In the Jewish culture of this time when people would meet a funeral session they would join with the mourners in the procession.  Jesus does more than just join with this broken hearted mother and those who mourned with her.      Luke wri

Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem

--> Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem Psalms 122             This Psalm is a Psalm of David.   In these scriptures he writes about the joy of going to the House of the Lord.   Verse 1 reads, “I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord.’”   He continues in verse 6 with this admonition.   “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May they prosper who love you.’” Why does the Bible encourage us to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem?”   Jerusalem was the one place among the twelve tribes of Israel that God chose to place His name.   Deuteronomy 12:5 reads, “But you shall seek the place where the Lord your God chooses, out of all your tribes, to put His name for His dwelling place; and there you shall go.” The Lord promises blessing to those who are a blessing to His covenant people.   God spoke these words to Abraham in Genesis 12:3, “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be b

The Fifth Month - Av - The Month to Hear

--> The Fifth Month – Av The Month to Hear For a number of years I have been studying and praying for insight into how the Lord moves and works in time. We learn in 1 Chronicles 12:32 that the Sons of Issachar had an understanding of the times and knew what Israel ought to do.  They were masters of the Hebrew calendar.   In Exodus 12:2 the Lord established the Hebrew calendar. “This month shall be your beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you.” The Hebrew calendar begins at Passover in the month of Nissan.  This calendar was God ordained and introduced in the Bible.   To better understand how God moves in times you can study the Hebrew calendar and the patterns that have been established in the Word of God.  Our Gregorian calendar is on a different time cycle than the Word of God. The Bible refers to the month of Av as the fifth month counting from Passover.  It corresponds to the months of July/August on our calendar.  This year
