Hebrews 12:2 – “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
God is omniscient, which means He is all knowing. The American Heritage Dictionary defines omniscient as “having total knowledge; knowing everything.” Nothing catches Him off guard. The Apostle John identifies Jesus as the “ruler over the kings of the earth” in Revelation 1:5.
Revelation 1:8 says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” If we will take time to listen to His voice, He will warn us of things to come. We do not know what the future holds, but we know the One who holds the future.
What do I mean when I say, “we have a warning”? I believe God will prophetically warn us of things to come. There are warnings in Scripture. In Genesis 19:12-13 the angels came to warn Lot that God was going to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. In Genesis 41:25-32 Joseph interprets the dream of Pharoah. He warned him of seven good years to be followed by seven years of famine.
Agabus warned Paul of what was going to happen to him in Jerusalem. Acts 21:10-11 says, “And as we stayed many days, a certain prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. When he had come to us, he took Paul’s belt, bound his own hands and feet, and said, “Thus says the Holy Spirit, ‘So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man who owns this belt, and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’”
We also have the warning of the signs of the times. Mark 13:5-8 says, “And Jesus, answering them, began to say: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and will deceive many. But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows.”
To be equipped to navigate chaotic times we need to develop the discipline of listening the Holy Spirit for His instructions. John 16:13 says, “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” The Holy Spirit will warn us of what’s to come.
