A Now God

Hebrew 13:8 – “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”


We serve a now God.  When He appeared to Moses at the burning bush in the wilderness on Mt. Sinai, He reveals Himself as “I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14).  He is not the great I was.  Some only see Him as the God of yesterday.  We must raise our level of expectation.  I love to study the moves of God in the past.  I love to hear the testimonies of past victories, but I have an expectation that we have not witnessed all He desires to do in our lives.


He is not just the great I will be.  Some will only embrace Him in a future context.  He is going to move.  He is going to send revival.  He is going to save the lost.  He is not just the God of the past or future, but He is the God of the present.  Psalms 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”


            We serve a mighty God.  The Psalmist writes in Psalms 102:25-27, “Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You will endure; Yes, they will all grow old like a garment; Like a cloak You will change them, And they will be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will have no end.”


            In times of crisis, we can take comfort because the God we serve reigns over heaven and earth.  Revelation 5:1-7 gives us a glimpse into the throne room of heaven. “And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals. Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, ‘Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?’ And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it. So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it.  But one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.’ And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.”


            Jesus is the lamb.  Revelation 13:8 identifies Him as “the lamb slain before the foundation of the world.” He is not the great I was, or the great I will be, but He is the great I am.  He is a now God.

The Shout of a King is Among Them

Numbers 23:21 - “He has not observed iniquity in Jacob, Nor has He seen wickedness in Israel. The Lord his God  is  with him, And the shout of a King  is  among them.” In this passage of Scripture, the king of Moab had hired the prophet Balaam to speak a curse over the children of Israel.   He saw Israel as a threat to his kingdom.   Numbers 22:2-3 – “Now Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.
