Ecclesiastes 3:1 reads, "To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven:" There are 28 different seasons in this passage of Scripture. (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8) God is a God of seasons. Just as there are natural seasons there are spiritual seasons. There are winter seasons where things have to die, so that they will have the capacity to bring forth new life in the spring (next season). There are spring seasons where we till the ground, prepare the soil, and plant the seeds. This season is important, because it brings us to the summer and fall seasons where we work to reap what has been sown.
There are several unique things about the four different seasons:
- Seasons have to do with humanity and our journey of faith. They relate to creation. There are 28 seasons. (8 x 4). Four is the number of creation.
- They are fixed laws in creation naturally and in the kingdom spiritually.
- They relate to man, and God deals with man in seasons, and brings us into different seasons of change in order to do something specific in our lives. We have to change, but God never changes.
How do we define a season? Seasons don't have a set period of time. They are defined in the following ways:
- When your assignment is completed - The Apostle Paul wrote, "One man sows, another waters, but God gives the increase." God will reveal when your assignment is complete. You will have a sense and know within your heart. Every season has a specific assignment. Our part is to seek God and find what we are to accomplish in this period of time.
- Seasons are defined by revelation and truth. What did God reveal to you during this current season? What truth did you have to stand on? What area of your life was processed, and what area of your life came under attack of the enemy? Revelation and truth will enable us to do the following: confront, conquer, and control. Many times we cannot move forward because we are stuck in a particular time or season.
- Only God can determine the length of our season. Acts 1:7 - "And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority."
- The season will only end at the word of the Lord. We can miss our season, or short circuit our season; we can move ahead or lag behind the directions of God. God will give us a word of ending.
- The old season must close for the new season to begin. God will not begin a new season until He brings forth the new. "Weeping endures for the night, but joy comes in the morning."
- To refuse to embrace the new season will become detrimental. If we do not allow God to bring forth the new, then we can undo what God did in the past season. To refuse to enter into the new season and allow God to bring forth the changes that He longs to bring will result in rebellion.
