Prepare the Way of the Lord

In Matthew 3:1-3 we are introduced to John the Baptist. He is a voice crying out in the wilderness. His assignment was to be a forerunner to Christ. The Bible says that He was to prepare the way of the Lord.

Jesus said this about John the Baptist in Luke 7:28 – “For I say to you, among those borne of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” Jesus recognized John the Baptist as a prophet. As a matter of fact He said, "there is not a greater prophet than John. In the Old Testament both Moses and Elijah were revered. Moses was used of the Lord as a deliverer and prophesied that one greater than him would come. This was a prophecy of the coming Messiah.

Elijah was known as the prophet of the supernatural. He called fire down out of heaven and stood up against the worship of Baal that had infiltrated Israel. God used this great prophet to call Israel back to the worship of Jehovah. The Lord used this great prophet of God to anoint kings and to raise up his successor, Elisha.

John’s assignment was to initiate a new order. His task was to prepare the way of the Lord. What did Moses, Elijah, and John the Baptist have in common? They were used of God as forerunners. They prepared the people of God for the new thing that God was getting ready to do. God is doing a new thing today. Isaiah 43:19 reads, “Behold, I will do a new thing, NOW!” What is the new thing that God is doing? Dr. Chuck Pierce, in his book, “Interpreting the Times,” gives five new things that God will do:
  1. A new identity – He is going to restore our souls so that we can enter into God designed us to be.
  2. New garments of favor – Favor is much like grace but is linked with obedience. Favor opens doors.
  3. New relationships – When God does a new thing in us, we must evaluate all of our relationships. He has new, fresh, divine connections to bring into our paths.
  4. A new anointing – God is going to give us a new anointing for a new day.
  5. A new level of authority – We are going to stand in dominion in the sphere of authority that we have been assigned by the Lord.
Recently as I was praying, I kept hearing the words, “Prepare the Way of the Lord.” How do we prepare the way of the Lord? Why do we need to prepare the way of the Lord? We must prepare ourselves for what God is releasing in our midst. Joshua 3:5 reads, “And Joshua said to the people, “Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you.” Dr. Chuck Pierce writes, “Sanctification means to set apart so you are ready to move forward in God’s purposes.” (Interpreting the Times)

God is birthing a new order and bringing us into a new day. We must be prepared for His coming. Malachi 3:1 - “Behold, I send My messenger,and he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple, even the Messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight. Behold, He is coming,” says the LORD of hosts. Verse 2 - “ But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner’s fire and like launderers’ soap. Verse 3 - "He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver;
He will purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer to the LORD An offering in righteousness."

These are the last days. We must get serious about seeking for Him. There is a wake up call to the sleeping church. Ephesians 5:14 – “Therefore He says: “ Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.” How do we prepare the way of the Lord? We learn from John the Baptist. He came with a message of repentance. Repentance will prepare the way of the Lord.

Rebuilding the Broken Altar of Prayer

In Matthew 21: 12-13 , “ Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’” Jesus made this declaration, “My house shall be called a house of prayer!”  I believe that God is calling us back to the altar of prayer.  For several weeks the Lord has dealt with me about rebuilding the broken altar of prayer in our personal and corporate lives.  If we are going to see spiritual breakthrough in our churches and communities then we must rebuild and return to the altar of prayer. Wayman Rogers writes, “The ministry of prayer is the most important of all ministries in the church.  Prayer creates the atmosphere and binds the powers of darkness so the gospel of Jesus can go forward and the church can prosper.  This is the area that

The Shout of a King is Among Them

Numbers 23:21 - “He has not observed iniquity in Jacob, Nor has He seen wickedness in Israel. The Lord his God  is  with him, And the shout of a King  is  among them.” In this passage of Scripture, the king of Moab had hired the prophet Balaam to speak a curse over the children of Israel.   He saw Israel as a threat to his kingdom.   Numbers 22:2-3 – “Now Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites. And Moab was exceedingly afraid of the people because they were many, and Moab was sick with dread because of the children of Israel.” When the enemy sees the people of God rising up in faith, he becomes very concerned and moves to keep us from fulfilling our assignment.   We learn in Numbers, Balaam could only speak what the Lord gave him to speak.   Instead of a curse he speaks a blessing. The enemy seeks our destruction, but God!   Listen to the conversation between God and Satan in Job 1:8-10, “Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you conside

I Hear the Sound of Abundance of Rain

I Hear the Sound of Abundance of Rain 1 Kings 18:41-46 Then Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.”  42  So Ahab went up to eat and drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; then he bowed down on the ground, and put his face between his knees,  43  and said to his servant, “Go up now, look toward the sea.” So he went up and looked, and said, “There is nothing.” And seven times he said, “Go again.” 44  Then it came to pass the seventh time, that he said, “There is a cloud, as small as a man’s hand, rising out of the sea!” So he said, “Go up, say to Ahab, ‘Prepare your chariot, and go down before the rain stops you.’” 45  Now it happened in the meantime that the sky became black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy rain. So Ahab rode away and went to Jezreel.  46  Then the hand of the Lord came upon Elijah; and he girded up his loins and ran ahead of Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.        One of the most fasci
