The story of Caleb is a story of victory, perseverance, and reward. It teaches us that God keeps His Word to us when we stay faithful to Him. Caleb realized His promise when he was 85 years old. He was delayed, but He was not denied. Joshua 24:12 records his words, “Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day.” This mountain was his promised inheritance. You and I have a promised inheritance.
What is our inheritance? Psalms 2:8 - “Ask of Me and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, and the ends of the earth as your possession.” A part of our inheritance is the harvest that God has appointed for us to reap. I believe that there are some Caleb’s who have carried some long term promises that God has kept for this hour and is now going to bring them forth.
Are you ready to possess your promise and take your mountain? This is our time for breakthrough! This is our moment. Don’t miss the opportunity that God will give to you in this season of time. This is the year to give birth. This is our year to move through the open gate or the open door. Revelation 4:1 - “After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.”
This is a time to receive revelation. We must move through the open door of opportunity so that we can receive revelation for our new assignment. I heard someone say recently, “Assignment means inheritance or lot.” Your assignment is your inheritance. The assignment is to possess your promise and to help establish the kingdom of God in this region.
In examining the life of Caleb there are some valuable lessons about how to possess your promised inheritance. Caleb's actions reveal the following about moving into your promised possession and seeing the realization of your prophetic promises.
Caleb refused to give up on the promises of God. In Numbers 13 we learn that Moses chose twelve men who were key leaders to go in and spy out the land. Ten of the twelve brought back an evil report. Only two, Joshua and Caleb, brought back a good report. Ten of the twelve became infected with fear, while Joshua and Caleb chose to believe the promise of God.
The result of the unbelief of the ten was that the children of Israel never realized their promised inheritance. They died in the wilderness without ever entering into the Promised Land. When the twelve spies returned, ten told the children of Israel, “We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities are fortified and very large; moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites dwell in the land of the South; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea and along the banks of the Jordan.” In verse 30 we learn of Caleb's response, “Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, ‘Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”
In Numbers 14 we learn that Israel missed their moment. They failed to enter into their promise by faith. They believed the majority report of unbelief. The result was that only two people from that generation were able to enter into the Promised Land. Caleb understood the timing of God. He understood the promises of God and was willing to move out by faith to possess his promise.
Forty five years later Caleb is still holding on to the promise that God made to him.
In Joshua 14:7-9 Caleb stands ready to possess his inheritance. “I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land, and I brought back word to him as it was in my heart.” “Nevertheless my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people melt, but I wholly followed the Lord my God.” “So Moses swore on that day, saying, Surely the land where your foot has trodden shall be your inheritance and your children’s forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.”

They may miss their moment, but like Caleb we must be faithful and persevere until we realize the fulfillment of our prophetic promises.
