iPray

 James 5:16 – “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”

                  Why have I titled this devotion as iPray? Most have heard of the iPhone, iPad, or the iPod. Have you ever wondered about what the i in iPhone means? I did some research and this is what I learned. The i in iPhone means internet, individual, instruct, inform, or inspire. When the original iMac was created, the "i" in iMac stood for Internet. It was designed as a Mac for the Internet?


            What does the i in iPray stand for. It stands for the following:

  • Intercession- which means to mediate or to stand in for another. It means to make a petition on behalf of another. I Timothy 2:1 says “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men.”
  • Inspired Prayers – Inspired prayer is praying in the Spirit. Jude 20 says, “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.”
  • Impact - Our prayers make an impact in our individual lives, our families, our church, and our community. Your prayer will make an impact. 
  • Individual Prayer – This is personal prayer. Matthew 6:5-7 says, “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.  But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.”
  • Intimate Prayer – God is calling us into the secret place of prayer. Psalms 91:11 says, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
  • Increasing Prayer – We should be growing in our prayer life. I Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
  • Intentional Prayer – This is prayer with a purpose. This is specific prayer. This is steadfast prayer. Romans 12:12 says, “…. rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer…”
  • Inviting Prayer - We invite the Lord into our daily lives, decisions, and circumstances. Jesus taught us to pray in Matthew 6:10, “Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.” Inviting prayer is asking the Lord to direct our decisions. The Psalmist penned these words in Psalms 143:10, “Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness.”

We need to allow the Holy Spirit to guide us in our times prayer. Invite God into your circumstances and decisions.

Rebuilding the Broken Altar of Prayer

In Matthew 21: 12-13 , “ Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’” Jesus made this declaration, “My house shall be called a house of prayer!”  I believe that God is calling us back to the altar of prayer.  For several weeks the Lord has dealt with me about rebuilding the broken altar of prayer in our personal and corporate lives.  If we are going to see spiritual breakthrough in our churches and communities then we must rebuild and return to the altar of prayer. Wayman Rogers writes, “The ministry of prayer is the most important of all ministries in the church.  Prayer creates the atmosphere and binds the powers of darkness so the gospel of Jesus can go forward and the church can prosper....

The Tent Peg of Jael

Judges 4:21-22 – “Then Jael, Heber’s wife, took a tent peg and took a hammer in her hand, and went softly to him and drove the peg into his temple, and it went down into the ground; for he was fast asleep and weary.
