When God Visits in Power

Luke 1:68  – “Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited and redeemed His people.” We are currently experiencing a time of divine visitation in the church. The way we respond to this visitation will determine our future. How do we define a divine visitation? “It is a moment when God steps into human history with purpose, power, and presence.” (1) When we experience a visitation of God’s Spirit we will grow in our walk and relationship with the Lord. II Peter 3:18 says, “but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.” When God visits in power there will be a restoration of the fear of God. Psalms 33:18 says, “Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who hope in His mercy.” The fear of the Lord is reverential awe. A. W. Tozer writes, “When men no longer fear God, they transgress His laws without hesitation. The fear of consequences is no deterrent when the fear of God is gone.” ...

Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalms 122:1-9 This Psalm is a Psalm of David.  In these scriptures he writes about the joy of going to the House of the Lord.  Verse 1 reads, “I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord.’”  He continues in verse 6 with this admonition.  “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May they prosper who love you.’” Why does the Bible encourage us to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem?”  Jerusalem was the one place among the twelve tribes of Israel that God chose to place His name.  Deuteronomy 12:5 reads, “But you shall seek the place where the Lord your God chooses, out of all your tribes, to put His name for His dwelling place; and there you shall go.” The Lord promises blessing to those who are a blessing to His covenant people.  God spoke these words to Abraham in Genesis 12:3, “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be ble...

He Makes Me to Lie Down in Green Pastures - That’s Rest

Psalms 23:2 – “He makes me to lie down in green pastures..”             David writes this Psalm from the perspective of a shepherd. He begins with “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.” This speaks of relationships and resources. Verse 2 reads, “He makes me to lie down in green pastures.”   Phillip Keller writes in his book, A Shepherd Looks at Psalms 23 , “The strange thing about sheep is that because of their very makeup it is almost impossible for them to be made to lie down unless four requirements are met.” 1.     Owing to their timidity they refuse to lie down unless they are free of all fear.   2.     Because of the social behavior within a flock, sheep will not lie down unless they are free from friction with others of their kind.   3.     If tormented by flies or parasites, sheep will not lie down. Only when free of these pests can they relax.   4...

The Holy Spirit Reveals the Majesty of God

Psalms 104:1 – “Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, You are very great: You are clothed with honor and majesty,”             The Holy Spirit is at work in the life of His church. He is moving in the nations of the world. One way we can recognize Him is He reveals the majesty of God. We serve a majestic God. Majestic means, “having or showing impressive beauty or dignity.”               We give the title “Your Majesty” to Kings, Queens, or Sovereigns. The Scriptures reveal the Lord as the Sovereign God of the Universe. He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. I Timothy 6:15 says, “which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords.” Rev. John Piper defines the sovereignty of God, “There are no limits to God’s rule. This is part of what it means to be God. He is sovereign over the whole world, and e...
