He Opened the Doors to the House of the Lord

 2 Chronicles 29:3 – “In the first year of his reign, in the first month, he opened the doors of the house of the Lord and repaired them.”

            King Hezekiah was a reformer.  He came to the throne at a very difficult time in the southern kingdom of Judah’s history.  He succeeded his father, Ahaz.  Ahaz had done evil in the sight of the Lord.  2 Chronicles 28:1-4 reveals the following about the character of Azah:


“Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem; and he did not do what was right in the sight of the Lord, as his father David had done. For he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made molded images for the Baals. He burned incense in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, and burned his children in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel.  And he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.”


            Hezekiah was a godly king.  He did what was right in the sight of the Lord.  In 2 Chronicles 29:3 we learn that “in the first year of his reign he opened the doors of the temple.”  These doors had previously been closed and had fallen in disrepair. The temple had been corrupted with idolatry and compromise.  He opened the doors to the House of the Lord to provide Israel with access to God.  The doors were opened to restore true worship to the House of God.


By opening these doors, He made a way for God's chosen people to enter into the presence of God.  Each of us has a door that we must open daily to the Lord.  It is the door to our heart.  We open the door to our heart so we may enter into His presence in our personal times of devotion and worship.  This door into our heart can be opened or closed to God.


In Revelation 3:20 Jesus is standing outside the door of the church of Laodicea knocking, desiring to enter into their lives.  The Lord is knocking on the door of your heart today.  He desires communion.  He longs to reveal Himself to you. 

 

How many times has He stood at the door of our hearts, knocking, only to be ignored, because we were too busy? How many times has the Lord Jesus Christ desired to commune and fellowship with you only to be left outside the door that only you can open.


If you are going to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and experience all that He has destined for you, then you must live with the door of your hearts open at all times.

Rebuilding the Broken Altar of Prayer

In Matthew 21: 12-13 , “ Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’” Jesus made this declaration, “My house shall be called a house of prayer!”  I believe that God is calling us back to the altar of prayer.  For several weeks the Lord has dealt with me about rebuilding the broken altar of prayer in our personal and corporate lives.  If we are going to see spiritual breakthrough in our churches and communities then we must rebuild and return to the altar of prayer. The Tent Peg of Jael

Judges 4:21-22 – “Then Jael, Heber’s wife, took a tent peg and took a hammer in her hand, and went softly to him and drove the peg into his temple, and it went down into the ground; for he was fast asleep and weary.
