Luke 6:45 – “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”
The Apostle James wrote in James 3:10, “Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.” We must watch over what we speak. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.” In Matthew 15:11 Jesus said, “Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”
What are you speaking? Our words must be words of life. Our speech should be uplifting and encouraging. We should release the following when we speak:
- Righteousness. Titus 2:11-12 – “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age.”
- Holiness. Psalms 93:5 – “Your testimonies are very sure; Holiness adorns Your house, O Lord, forever.”
- Justice. Psalms 37:20 – “The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, And his tongue talks of justice.”
- Hope. Romans 15:13 – “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
- Salvation and deliverance. I Peter 3:9 – “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
- Power. Acts 4:33 – “And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all.”
Our words should be encouraging, uplifting, and filled with faith. The Apostle James writes in James 1:19, “So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.” The Apostle Paul encourages us to “Let your conversation be always full of grace, season with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”
