We are living in exciting times.  The Apostle Paul described our days in 2 Timothy 3:1, “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will c ome.”   The word “perilous” means dangerous.   We are living in very dangerous times.             To quote Charles Dickens, “There are the best of times and the worst of times.”   Our society is increasingly becoming more perverse and violent.   We are inundated with news of shootings, violence, and drug related crimes.   Many times this violence is directed toward the most innocent of our society.             How do the people of God respond to a society that continues to spiral out of control?   We must be diligent to fulfill the Great Commission.   The times we live in demand a response from God’s people.   This is a “such as time as this” moment.     ...

There is a passage of Scripture in the New Testament about the disciple Peter’s action when Christ was arrested and tried before His crucifixion.   Matthew 26:58 reads, “But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.”   Peter followed the Lord from a distance. This is the same individual that earlier made this declaration, “ I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death.”   Luke the Physician records the events that took place a few hours on that same night.   In Luke 22:57, “But he denied Him, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.” How quick things can change.   Peter was the outspoken disciple.   He was the disciple who declared, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”   In just a few short hours he went from a willingness to die to denial.       In a recent prayer meeting the Lord spoke to me about three actions that we must take as believers if we are going to grow in our walk and relationship with Him.   We must crucify the flesh. We must allow the Holy Spirit to renew our minds. We must present our bodies as a living sacrifice to God.        First, we must crucify our flesh. The Apostle Paul penned these words under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to the Church at Galatia.  “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”       What does it mean to “crucify the flesh?”  To crucify the flesh means to die to the sinful nature.  The flesh is the sinful element of human nature.  It is what the Bible describes as the “Old Man of Sin.”  It must be dealt with at the cross.  Paul wr...

At the beginning of each New Year I try to set aside time to pray and listen for prophetic direction for the coming year.  The Bible teaches that we should seek after and value prophetic direction.  In Jeremiah 33:3 the Scriptures declare, “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”  The Amplified Version reads, “Call to Me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things, fenced in  and  hidden, which you do not know (do not distinguish and recognize, have knowledge of and understand).”             As we pray and wait in the presence of the Lord He gives revelation about things we are experiencing and about the future.  The Prophet Amos penned these words in Amos 3:7, “Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.” We must be careful to remember that prophet...

Heavenly Father, We exalt You knowing You are God and You are gracious and merciful (Neh. 9:31).   Our hope is in You (Ps. 31:24) and we trust in You (Ps. 118:9).   We petition You as the Head of all things (Eph. 1:22) asking for a historic shift in our nation concerning the election on November 6, 2012.   We call for truth and righteousness to be revealed in every issue having an effect on American citizens, for we know Your word says that righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people (Prov. 14:34) We ask for a holy disturbance regarding humanism and socialism trends in our nation (1Chron. 12:32; Isaiah 59:15). We ask for a holy disruption among those unwilling to follow Godly standards causing a renewed emphasis favoring Christian values (1 Cor. 6:9-20; Titus 2:12). Heavenly Father, We give You love, glory, and honor. We declare that You are worthy of praise. We, at South Greenwood PHC, join together in steadfast faith as we lift our fasting and prayer to You (Matt 6). We thank You for sending Your Son to conquer all things for us, causing us to be more than conquerors (Rom. 8:37). We thank You that, in His name, power is released for all that we need (Mark 16:17). We know You reward those who diligently seek You (Heb. 11:6). We rejoice that You are eager to answer prayer and that You delight in answering prayer (Gen. 15:2; Matt. 6:13). Returning to the Altar of Prayer Matthew 21:12-15             For the last few weeks I have been burdened to pray for the state of the church, our nation, and the upcoming election.   We are living in perilous times.   I believe it is imperative that we return to the altar of prayer individually and corporately.                It is time to rebuild the altar of prayer.   God is calling His Church back to the place of prayer.   We must not just be a praying church, but become a House of Prayer.   We are faced with serious problems in our nation and society today.   Marriage is under assault.   Unemployment continues to affect millions in our nations.   The Middle East has become unstable and threatens to unleash violence and draw the nations of the earth into war.      ...
