The Holy Spirit Reveals the Majesty of God

Psalms 104:1 – “Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, You are very great: You are clothed with honor and majesty,”             The Holy Spirit is at work in the life of His church. He is moving in the nations of the world. One way we can recognize Him is He reveals the majesty of God. We serve a majestic God. Majestic means, “having or showing impressive beauty or dignity.”               We give the title “Your Majesty” to Kings, Queens, or Sovereigns. The Scriptures reveal the Lord as the Sovereign God of the Universe. He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. I Timothy 6:15 says, “which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords.” Rev. John Piper defines the sovereignty of God, “There are no limits to God’s rule. This is part of what it means to be God. He is sovereign over the whole world, and e...

The Work and Ministry of the Holy Spirit in the Last Days

Acts 2:14-20   – “But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words. For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy. I will show wonders in heaven above And signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved.’” We are living in the last days....

The Tithe is Holy

Leviticus 27:30 – “And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord’s. It is holy to the Lord.” The tithe is holy to the Lord.  This is the portion of our income God requires us to return to Him.  Some would argue the tithe was only under the law of Moses.  In Genesis 14:20 Abraham tithes to Melchizedek some six-hundred years before God gave the law to Moses.  We must be careful not to mishandle holy things.             In Genesis 28:10-22 Jacob stops in Luz and sleeps on his journey.  He dreams of a ladder with its top reaching into heaven.  There are angels ascending and descending the latter.  At the top of this ladder was the Lord. He identifies Himself as the God of Abraham, and Isaac. He identifies Himself as the Covenant God of Jacob’s fathers....

Don't Leave Jesus Out

Adolph Menzel created a painting titled  Frederick the Great ’ s Address to His Generals Before the Battle of Leuthen . This historical piece depicts Frederick’s speech to his generals in December 1757 during the Seven Years’ War before their famous battle in Silesia against the Austrians.       Menzel worked on it from 1859-1861, but never finished it. The monumental painting contains the background and the generals standing in a semi-circle, but the main figure of Frederick the Great was left blank. Menzel’s famous painting is a picture of many lives.        The background of career, interests, pursuits and achievement is complete. The faces of significant people like family, friends and colleagues surround. But the central and most important figure is left incomplete—Jesus. Jesus Christ has been given a name that is above all others and rightly deserves to be the focal point of our lives. Likewise, the centrality of Chr...

Royal Birth

On Monday, July 23, 2013, the world’s eyes were on Saint Mary’s Hospital in London, England.   They were awaiting the arrival of a new royal baby.   The baby was the first child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge; third in royal succession to the throne of England. This baby, Prince George Alexander, Louise, is destined to serve as the future king of England.   He is born into wealth and privilege.   This baby will have the very best of care.   No doubt he will have nurses and nannies to oversee his care.   He will have tutors, go to exclusive schools, and receive training in the traditions of what it means to be of royal descent.   We have learned from news reports that this baby would be third in royal succession to the throne of England.   Why all the attention of news media and outlets from around the world?   Why the pomp and circumstance?   Perhaps it is a fascination with the monarchy and the trappings of royalty.   ...

Jesus Came to Destroy the Works of the Devil

1 John 3:8b – “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” John the beloved Apostle writes in his first letter to the New Testament church that the Son of God was manifested that He might destroy the works of the devil.   What are the works of the devil?   What is it that the Lord Jesus Christ came to destroy? We must examine the Scriptures to understand the works of the devil. II Corinthians 2:11 says, “lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.” In our studies, we learn how our enemy operates on earth, and in the lives of individuals. He opposes God’s purposes on Earth and devises schemes to prevent God’s people from entering into those purposes. In John10:10 we learn he is the thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Revelation 12:10 reveals him as “the accuser of the brethren.”   I Peter 5:8 says, “your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking ...

Christmas - A Season of Divine Intervention

Galatians 4:4-5 - " But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,  to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons." The Christmas season is one that celebrates the birth of a Savior.    It records the birth of the long-promised Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ.  Sadly, in our society, this season has become very secular. It is a holiday filled with all kinds of holiday sales, bargains, pageants, and programs.   There are holiday movies; classic television shows that date back to our childhood.    This season is characterized by busyness and hurrying around to find that last-minute gift for the ones we love. This is also a season for the family.    Many will travel great distances to be with family and friends that they only see a couple of times of the year.    It is also a time for worship.    We will gath...
