John 8:36 – “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
The resurrection of Jesus Christ guarantees that we can live in complete freedom from the bondage of sin. Romans 6:14 says, “For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.” Jesus announced His mission in Luke 4:18-19, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
Jesus came to proclaim liberty to those held in captivity. True freedom is only found in Jesus Christ our Lord. How do we experience this freedom? By faith we declare, “If the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” What holds you in captivity?
There is freedom from fear. One of Satan’s favorite tools is fear. I John 4:18 says, “fear has torment.” The enemy loves to use fear to torment us. We don’t have to be fearful. II Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
We can be free from the bondage of sin. Galatians 2:20 reads, “ I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
We can be free from the bondage of sickness. We have a better covenant built on better promises. One of those promises is healing. I Peter 2:24 says, “who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.” In Mark 16:18 Jesus said, “You will lay hands on the sick and they shall recover.”
We can be free from the bondage of sin. Galatians 2:20 says, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Jesus died so we can live in complete freedom. We can be free of guilt and condemnation. Romans 8:1 says, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.”
Our freedom came at great cost. I Peter 1:18-19 says, “knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” Jesus took our place on the cross. He purchased our freedom. We have the promise of complete freedom.
