Galatians 4:4-5 – “But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.”
God is the great chronographer of the ages. He identifies Himself as “the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty” (Revelation 1:8). He is not constrained by time. He views the whole panorama of time. He sees the beginning and the end.
We are servants of time. God orchestrates the ages. He leaves nothing to chance or circumstances. The Scripture teaches, “when the fullness of time had come,” Jesus came at the right time. The rule of Rome was foretold by Daniel when he interpreted the dream of Nebuchadnezzar. The Lord was not surprised when Caesar Augustus instituted Pax Romana (The Peace of Rome).
God did not take advantage of circumstances. He did not cease an opportunity when the subjects of Rome were ordered to register by the Roman Emperor, Augustus. The lonely manger was not His second choice. There was no alternate plan. He watched over the generations and kept His promise to send the Messiah. “When the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law.” In the earliest pages of the Bible God gave this prophetic promise, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel” (Genesis 3:15).
God is not a God of happenstance. He watches over His word to perform it. He is faithful to keep His promises. We can trust Him with the intricate details of our lives. We may not always understand our circumstances, but we can trust His timing. We must learn to submit to His plans and allow Him to work His purposes in our lives.
