Warring for Your Breakthrough

II Corinthians 10:4 “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,”

This is a very significant year.  The year 2017 is the year to wield the sword of the Lord.  We have titled this year as a year to war for your breakthrough.  Jude the half-brother of Jesus wrote in Jude 1:3, “Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.”

Paul wrote these words concerning the battle we are to engage the enemy in 1 Timothy 6:12, “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” Too many of God’s people are asleep.  We must understand the times we are living in. Romans 13:11 says, “And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.”

There is a cry from heaven today to wake the sleeping church from her spiritual slumber.  Many in the Body of Christ are unaware of the spiritual war going on around them.  What is this warfare about?  It is to distract you, delay you, and deny you the breakthrough you are believing for. Joseph Mattera writes, “When someone on earth wants to bring the influence of the kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven, Satan erupts with fear and anger against them since he doesn’t want to be thrown out of another place.”[1]

What are you believing God for today?  What promise are you standing in faith to see? Many times, you engage your enemy at the point of your breakthrough.  We must allow the Commander of the Lord’s Host to stand with us in battle today until breakthrough comes. This battle is not an earthly battle to be fought with fleshly weapons.  II Corinthians 10:3 says, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.”

An effective strategy to use against the enemy is found in James 4:7, “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” The Christian can best resist the devil in the following three ways: First, we must know how the devil attacks. II Corinthians 2:11, “Lest Satan should get an advantage of us:  for we are not ignorant of his devices.” Second, we must stand guard waiting for Satan to attack.  I Peter 5:8 instructs us to, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” Third, we must put on the whole armor of God.

Rebuilding the Broken Altar of Prayer

In Matthew 21: 12-13 , “ Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’” Jesus made this declaration, “My house shall be called a house of prayer!”  I believe that God is calling us back to the altar of prayer.  For several weeks the Lord has dealt with me about rebuilding the broken altar of prayer in our personal and corporate lives.  If we are going to see spiritual breakthrough in our churches and communities then we must rebuild and return to the altar of prayer. Wayman Rogers writes, “The ministry of prayer is the most important of all ministries in the church.  Prayer creates the atmosphere and binds the powers of darkness so the gospel of Jesus can go forward and the church can prosper....

The Shout of a King is Among Them

Numbers 23:21 - “He has not observed iniquity in Jacob, Nor has He seen wickedness in Israel. The Lord his God  is  with him, And the shout of a King  is  among them.” In this passage of Scripture, the king of Moab had hired the prophet Balaam to speak a curse over the children of Israel.   He saw Israel as a threat to his kingdom.   Numbers 22:2-3 – “Now Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites. And Moab was exceedingly afraid of the people because they were many, and Moab was sick with dread because of the children of Israel.” When the enemy sees the people of God rising up in faith, he becomes very concerned and moves to keep us from fulfilling our assignment.   We learn in Numbers, Balaam could only speak what the Lord gave him to speak.   Instead of a curse he speaks a blessing. The enemy seeks our destruction, but God!   Listen to the conversation between God and Satan in ...

They Turned Back in the Day of Battle

Psalms 78:9 – “ “The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.”             Ephraim was the younger of two sons of Joseph.   His first born was Manasseh.   It was Ephraim that received the blessing of Jacob.   The tribe of Ephraim became the largest of the ten northern tribes of Israel.   Many times the Bible used the name Ephraim to represent the whole nation of Israel.             In verse 9 they are armed and carrying bows.   They are dressed, equipped, and ready to battle.   Yet we learn that they turned back in the day of battle.   The Bible identifies this as sin.   To turn back in the day of battle was displeasing to God.               To be armed meant that they were equipped with armor, a sword, and a shield. ...
