The Power of Unity - Part Two, the High Cost of Unity

Unity comes with a great price. It does not just happen. The Apostle Paul wrote these words to the church at Ephesus in Ephesians 4:3, ā€œEndeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.ā€ The Amplified Bible reads, ā€œBe eager and strive earnestly to guard and keep the harmony and oneness of [and produced by] the Spirit in the binding power of peace.ā€

Unity is not without cost. It is the result of a people who are submitted first the Lord, then to the God given authority in their lives. Unity cost you your own agenda. It means uniting together behind the mission and vision of the church. Most churches never realize their potential because they have not settled the authority question.

If you have a problem submitting to authority then you have a submission issue in your relationship with the Lord.
If we cannot submit to the God ordained authority in our lives then we will not be able to completely submit to the Holy Spirit. Refusal to submit to authority is rebellion.

I Samuel 15:23 reads, ā€œFor rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He also has rejected you from being king.ā€ Many donā€™t believe that witchcraft exists in the church today. In the past when I have taught concerning witchcraft and talked about demonic spirits many in the church have questioned that teaching. The Bible is filled with references about the unseen enemy that we engage when we endeavor to do the work of God.

Witchcraft can be defined as manipulation, intimidation, and domination.
The Apostle Paul wrote to the Galatians, in Galatians 3:1, ā€œO foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?ā€ What is the result of this witchcraft? What happens when there is division caused by rebellion? There will be strife. James 3:16 reads, ā€œFor where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.ā€

Recently the Lord gave me the following
four things that result when a spirit of witchcraft is in operation:
1) Criticism

2) Oppression/Confusion

3) Discouragement

4) Depression/heaviness

The Bible defines heaviness as a spirit. Isaiah 61:3 reads, ā€œTo console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.ā€

What is the end result of division? The Apostle Paul writes these words in Galatians 5:15,
"But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!ā€ The end result of division will be destruction. Matthew 12:25 records the words of Jesus, ā€œEvery kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.

Division will devastate a church, a family, or any organization. God is calling His church to unite together to reap our God ordained harvest and to demonstrate His love to a world that does not know Him.

Rebuilding the Broken Altar of Prayer

In Matthew 21: 12-13 , ā€œ Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, ā€œIt is written, ā€˜My house shall be called a house of prayer,ā€™ but you have made it a ā€˜den of thieves.ā€™ā€ Jesus made this declaration, ā€œMy house shall be called a house of prayer!ā€  I believe that God is calling us back to the altar of prayer.  For several weeks the Lord has dealt with me about rebuilding the broken altar of prayer in our personal and corporate lives.  If we are going to see spiritual breakthrough in our churches and communities then we must rebuild and return to the altar of prayer. Wayman Rogers writes, ā€œThe ministry of prayer is the most important of all ministries in the church.  Prayer creates the atmosphere and binds the powers of darkness so the gospel of Jesus can go forward and the church can prosper....

The Shout of a King is Among Them

Numbers 23:21 - ā€œHe has not observed iniquity in Jacob, Nor has He seen wickedness in Israel. The Lord his God  is  with him, And the shout of a King  is  among them.ā€ In this passage of Scripture, the king of Moab had hired the prophet Balaam to speak a curse over the children of Israel.   He saw Israel as a threat to his kingdom.   Numbers 22:2-3 ā€“ ā€œNow Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites. And Moab was exceedingly afraid of the people because they were many, and Moab was sick with dread because of the children of Israel.ā€ When the enemy sees the people of God rising up in faith, he becomes very concerned and moves to keep us from fulfilling our assignment.   We learn in Numbers, Balaam could only speak what the Lord gave him to speak.   Instead of a curse he speaks a blessing. The enemy seeks our destruction, but God!   Listen to the conversation between God and Satan in ...

They Turned Back in the Day of Battle

Psalms 78:9 ā€“ ā€œ ā€œThe children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.ā€             Ephraim was the younger of two sons of Joseph.   His first born was Manasseh.   It was Ephraim that received the blessing of Jacob.   The tribe of Ephraim became the largest of the ten northern tribes of Israel.   Many times the Bible used the name Ephraim to represent the whole nation of Israel.             In verse 9 they are armed and carrying bows.   They are dressed, equipped, and ready to battle.   Yet we learn that they turned back in the day of battle.   The Bible identifies this as sin.   To turn back in the day of battle was displeasing to God.               To be armed meant that they were equipped with armor, a sword, and a shield. ...
