A Season of Praise and Thanksgiving

Psalms 26:7 - “That I may publish (proclaim) with voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works.”       We are entering into a season of praise and thanksgiving. In the next few days we will gather with our families and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving. People will travel great distances to gather around the table and share a meal of thanksgiving. This is a wonderful holiday and we should enjoy our time with family and friends.       Worship involves a number of elements. Two elements that are closely related are thanksgiving and praise. Though they are similar there are differences. Praise is a powerful weapon to be used against the enemy of our soul in spiritual warfare. Praise nourishes the soul, prepares the heart to become pure, and builds us up in faith.       The twin sister of praise is thanksgiving. These two elements of prayer look alike, perform alike and come from the same source, which is ...

Breakthrough in the Midnight Hour

Acts 16:25-26 - “But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.   Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.”              The sixteenth chapter of Acts defines the Macedonian call of the Apostle Paul and his team.   Acts 16:6 says, “They were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia.”   God changed their plans.   He had new territory for their ministry.   There are times God will change your plans.   You must be sensitive to the leadership of the Holy Spirit.   Romans 8:14 says, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”             Acts 16:9 records the Holy Spirit’s instructions, “ And a vis...

The Saddest Words in the Gospels

Matthew 7:21-23 – “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.   Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’”             Perhaps the saddest words in the Gospels are recorded in Matthew 7:23, “depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.”   Hell will be a place of departure.   I heard someone say some years ago, “Hell will be a place of continually going away from the presence of God.”   Our cry today should be the same as Moses in Exodus 33:15, “If Your presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here.”             We cannot ...

Eternity - Fact or Fiction

Luke 16:19-26 – “There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate,   desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.    And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’ But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. And besides all this, between us and ...
