Hebrews 13:15 - “Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.”
Sacrificial praise is costly praise. In Jeremiah 33:11, the Prophet Jeremiah speaks about a returning of those in captivity “who will bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the Lord.” Praise creates a pathway for God to intervene in our circumstances. Psalms 22:3-5 says, “But You are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel. Our fathers trusted in You; they trusted, and You delivered them. They cried to You, and were delivered; They trusted in You, and were not ashamed.”
Dr. Dick Eastman writes about this passage in his book, Heights of Delight, “The thought here is that God literally dwells, reveals Himself, where His people praise Him. He inhabits that very place. I am told a Japanese translation of this verse reads, ‘When God’s people praise Him, He brings a big chair and sits there.’ Our praises become God’s throne.” Eastman continues, “When we begin declaring God’s praise over our needs or distant nations, we are literally establishing His throne among those needs or nations.”
Dedicated praise is devotional praise. We must develop a lifestyle of praise and worship. We must take time in our personal devotional time to worship the Lord. Revelation is released when we worship. We are encouraged and receive new strength during these worship times. We overcome discouragement when we give God praise. Isaiah 61:3 says, “To console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”
One of the most effective ways to overcome the enemy is to give praise to God, and use it as a weapon against him. Colossians 4:2 says, “continue earnest in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.” II Samuel 22:4 says, “I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies.”
