Hebrews 11:1 – “Now faith is the
substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Faith is
a powerful tool in the arsenal of the believer. In Mark 5, Jairus, a ruler of
the Synagogue came to Jesus about his daughter who was very sick and at the
point of death. As He made His way to the house of Jairus there was a woman
with an issue of blood who touched the hem of His garment and was made whole. Mark
5:35 says, “While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s
house who said, ‘Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?’”
In verse 36 Jesus says to Jairus, “Do not be afraid; only believe.”
Using the
word faith as an acrostic, we can learn how to activate our faith.
1.
F – Faith – J. Oswald Sanders, “Faith enables the believing
soul to treat the future as present, and the invisible as seen.” Faith is the root word of faithful. If we are unfaithful we have a problem with
faith. Our faith increases as we read
and study the Word of God. Romans 10:17
says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
2.
A –
Activation – Faith is activated
through our words. We give expression to
our faith when we speak the Word of God over every circumstance we face. Revelation 12:11 reads, “And they overcame
him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did
not love their lives to the death.” Our
testimony is a declaration of our faith.
3.
I –
Intercession – The things of faith
are born out of intercession. 1 Timothy 2:1 says, “Therefore I exhort first of
all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made
for all men.” Jesus gave the following instructions about prayer in Mark 11:24,
“Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that
you receive them, and you will have them.”
4.
T –
Time – Time is the test of
faith. Our faith will always be tested.
Hebrews 6:11-12 says, “And we desire that each one of you show the same
diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become
sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the
promises.” We inherit the promises through faith and patience. The race
of faith is a race of endurance. Isaiah 40:31 says, “But those who wait on
the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with
wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not
faint.” We want everything instantly, but the test of faith is time.
5.
H – Heaven – Faith brings heaven to earth. In Matthew 6:9-13
Jesus taught on prayer. “Our Father in
heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on
earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily
bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Our prayer today is: Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
And do not lead us into temptation,But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Our prayer today is: Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Smith
Wigglesworth writes in Faith that Prevails, “I believe that there is
only one way to all the treasures of God, and that is the way of faith. By
faith and faith alone do we enter into a knowledge of the attributes and become
partakers of the beatitudes, and participate in the glories of our ascended
Lord. All His promises are Yea and Amen to them that believe.”[1]
