Ephesians
2:13 – “But now
in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood
of Christ.”
Dr.
Author T. Pierson says, “Ephesians is Paul’s third heaven Epistle.” [i]
J. Vernon McGee writes, “Many expositors consider this the highest peak of
scriptural truth, the very apex of Bible revelation.”[ii]
In Ephesians the Apostle Paul writes about our standing with Christ. In Ephesians 2:1-3, the Apostle defines our
lost condition, “And you He made alive, who were dead in
trespasses and sins, in which you once walked
according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of
the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among
whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling
the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath,
just as the others.”
Without
the Lord Jesus Christ we are lost and without hope. Romans 3:10-12 describes our lost condition,
“As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who
understands; There is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside;
They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not
one.”
The good
news is that God loves us unconditionally.
John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only
begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have
everlasting life.” Ephesians 2:13 says,
“We who were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” What does it mean to be brought near? 1 Peter 2:10 offers a definition, “who once
were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but
now have obtained mercy.”
The
moment we prayed to ask Jesus to become our Savior we were born again. II Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if
anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold,
all things have become new.” We were
without Christ (Ephesians 2:12), but we have been brought near through the
blood of Christ.
