Revelation
4:1, “After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven.
And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying,
“Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.”
Revelation
2-3, the Apostle John records the words of the resurrected Christ to seven
churches. He speaks personally to each
of these seven churches. In Revelation
4:1 something changes. The scene changes from earth to heaven. The Apostle John
is called up to the throne of God. G. R.
Beasley writes, “It is evident that a new beginning in the book of Revelation
is made at 4:1. A door in heaven is opened to enable the prophet to enter its
portals and see what transpires in heaven, that he may understand what takes
place on earth.” [i]
God
is in charge of the ages. Revelation 1:8
identifies Jesus as, “the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning
and the End.” Hebrews 13:8 reveals, “Jesus Christ is the same
yesterday, today, and forever.” God has a plan for His people. We are a prophetic people and we live in
anticipation of the second coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul wrote concerning this
anticipation in 1 Thessalonians 4:18, “ Therefore
comfort one another with these words.”
How do we
know Jesus is coming? Simply because we
have the promises of His coming in the Word of God. John 14:1-3, ““Let not your heart be
troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many
mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for
you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive
you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know,
and the way you know.” In Acts 1:11 the angel announced, “who also said, “Men
of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up
from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”
We
must be ready for His return. In John
3:3 Jesus said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he
cannot see the kingdom of God.” This is
not a time to drift away from His love, or to grow cold and indifferent in your
walk of faith. We must draw near to God.
Matthew 24:42-44 says, “Matthew 24:42, “Watch therefore, for you do not
know what hour your Lord is coming.” Verse 43 – “But know this, that if the
master of the house had known what hour the thief would come he would have watched
and not allowed his house to be broken into.”
Verse 44 – “Therefore you also be ready, for Son of Man is coming at an
hour you do not expect.”
