Deuteronomy
31:6 – “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for
the Lord your God, He is the
One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
The word brave is defined as “ready to face and
endure danger or pain; showing courage.” It takes bravery to stand in faith
against adverse circumstances. We are called to be bold and strong in the
things of God. Ephesians 6:10 says, “Finally,
my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”
We are involved
in a spiritual conflict. We are called to be soldiers of the cross in the army
of God. II Timothy 2:3-4 says, “You
therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one
engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may
please him who enlisted him as a soldier.”
This
battle is not a physical battle to be fought with physical weapons. II
Corinthians 10:4 reads, “For the
weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for
pulling down strongholds.” Our weapons
are spiritual. We have the Word of God,
the power of prayer, and the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:14 says, “For as many as are led by
the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”
Solomon
wrote in Proverbs 28:1, “The wicked flee when no one pursues, But the righteous
are bold as a lion.” Morris Chapman
wrote a beautiful chorus, Be Bold, Be
Strong. The words encourage us to be
brave in our walk of faith. The words
are as follows:
“Be bold, be strong, For the Lord your God
is with you.
Be
bold, be strong, For the Lord your God is with you.
I am
not afraid, I am not dismayed,
Because
I'm walking in faith and victory,
Come
on and walk in faith and victory,
For
the Lord your God is with you.”
We are
called to be brave in our walk with God.
There will be attacks from our enemy. We will face storms in life,
persecution, and adverse circumstances in our Christian journey. The good news is that we are not alone. We have the promise of Hebrews 13:6, “So we
may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to
me?” We have the promise of His abiding
presence. He promises in Hebrews 13:5 to
“never leave us nor forsake us.”
