Who is This Baby?

      Christmas is a holiday that celebrates the arrival of a baby! Not just any baby, but a special baby born in a small Middle-eastern village some two thousand years ago. On that first Christmas night shepherds came to see this special baby lying in a manger. The Magi from the East followed a bright star to the place of this child’s birth.

      Who was this newborn infant? Who was this baby born to a young unmarried teenage girl on a cold Judean winter’s night? This baby was not just another baby born on this rebellious planet! This baby was more than what was discernible with the human eyes. The Word of God gives us insight into who this baby was:

       Luke 2:8-14 - “And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel of the Lord said unto them, fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”

       It is as much a marvel today as it was two thousand years ago: God the Father so approved of the one born on that first Christmas night in Bethlehem that He bid the angels to worship together. Who is the baby born in Bethlehem of Judea? Who is this child born to the announcement of angels? Who is this baby called the Christ of Christmas?

      We learn in the Scriptures that He was the Christ, the Anointed One. He was the promised Messiah. Luke the Physician so eloquently writes, “A Savior, which is Christ the Lord.” The Bible gives us many names and titles that describe the Messiah. Perhaps the greatest name is Savior.

      Our sins have separated us from God. Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” What is our remedy? How do we overcome our sinful condition? We need a Savior. Jesus teaches in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

      Who is this baby that was born to the worship of shepherds and wise men? He is the Christ, the Anointed One, and our Savior. Why not allow Him to become your Savior today.

The Shout of a King is Among Them

Numbers 23:21 - “He has not observed iniquity in Jacob, Nor has He seen wickedness in Israel. The Lord his God  is  with him, And the shout of a King  is  among them.” In this passage of Scripture, the king of Moab had hired the prophet Balaam to speak a curse over the children of Israel.   He saw Israel as a threat to his kingdom.   Numbers 22:2-3 – “Now Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites. And Moab was exceedingly afraid of the people because they were many, and Moab was sick with dread because of the children of Israel.” When the enemy sees the people of God rising up in faith, he becomes very concerned and moves to keep us from fulfilling our assignment.   We learn in Numbers, Balaam could only speak what the Lord gave him to speak.   Instead of a curse he speaks a blessing. --> The Fifth Month – Av The Month to Hear For a number of years I have been studying and praying for insight into how the Lord moves and works in time. We learn in 1 Chronicles 12:32 that the Sons of Issachar had an understanding of the times and knew what Israel ought to do.  They were masters of the Hebrew calendar.   In Exodus 12:2 the Lord established the Hebrew calendar. “This month shall be your beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you.” The Hebrew calendar begins at Passover in the month of Nissan.  This calendar was God ordained and introduced in the Bible.   To better understand how God moves in times you can study the Hebrew calendar and the patterns that have been established in the Word of God.  Our Gregorian calendar is on a different time cycle than the Word of God.
