I AM Powerful

Ephesians 3:20 - "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us."

In Exodus 3:9-10 God has a conversation with Moses at Horeb, the mountain of God. He speaks to Him through a burning bush. The conversation is recorded in Exodus 3:9-10 the Lord shares His purpose with meeting with Moses on this mountain. Let’s join the conversation in verses 9-10, ā€œNow therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.ā€

God hears the cries of His covenant people. He hears our cries today. He saw the oppression of the enemy against His people. He sees the oppression we experience from the enemy of our souls. He encounters Moses and puts on a display of His power. He commissions Him to go lead the children of Israel out of Egyptian bondage. Deuteronomy 26:8 says, ā€œThe Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth.ā€

We learn in the Scriptures that He is a powerful God. Psalms 62:11 says, God has spoken once, Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God.ā€ The good news is He makes this power available to us. Acts 1:8 says, ā€œBut you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.ā€

The Apostle Paul writes in Ephesians 1:17-19, ā€œthat the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power .ā€

Charles Spurgeon is quoted, ā€œWithout the Spirit of God, we can do nothing. We are as ships without the wind, branches without sap, and like coals without fire, we are useless.ā€ What are His words to us? I AM powerful. He is the great I AM.

Rebuilding the Broken Altar of Prayer

In Matthew 21: 12-13 , ā€œ Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, ā€œIt is written, ā€˜My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ā€˜den of thieves.ā€™ā€ Jesus made this declaration, ā€œMy house shall be called a house of prayer!ā€  I believe that God is calling us back to the altar of prayer.  For several weeks the Lord has dealt with me about rebuilding the broken altar of prayer in our personal and corporate lives.  If we are going to see spiritual breakthrough in our churches and communities then we must rebuild and return to the altar of prayer. Wayman Rogers writes, ā€œThe ministry of prayer is the most important of all ministries in the church.  Prayer creates the atmosphere and binds the powers of darkness so the gospel of Jesus can go forward and the church can prosper....

The Shout of a King is Among Them

Numbers 23:21 - ā€œHe has not observed iniquity in Jacob, Nor has He seen wickedness in Israel. The Lord his God  is  with him, And the shout of a King  is  among them.ā€ In this passage of Scripture, the king of Moab had hired the prophet Balaam to speak a curse over the children of Israel.   He saw Israel as a threat to his kingdom.   Numbers 22:2-3 – ā€œNow Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites. And Moab was exceedingly afraid of the people because they were many, and Moab was sick with dread because of the children of Israel.ā€ When the enemy sees the people of God rising up in faith, he becomes very concerned and moves to keep us from fulfilling our assignment.   We learn in Numbers, Balaam could only speak what the Lord gave him to speak.   Instead of a curse he speaks a blessing. The enemy seeks our destruction, but God!   Listen to the conversation between God and Satan in ...

They Turned Back in the Day of Battle

Psalms 78:9 – ā€œ ā€œThe children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.ā€             Ephraim was the younger of two sons of Joseph.   His first born was Manasseh.   It was Ephraim that received the blessing of Jacob.   The tribe of Ephraim became the largest of the ten northern tribes of Israel.   Many times the Bible used the name Ephraim to represent the whole nation of Israel.             In verse 9 they are armed and carrying bows.   They are dressed, equipped, and ready to battle.   Yet we learn that they turned back in the day of battle.   The Bible identifies this as sin.   To turn back in the day of battle was displeasing to God.               To be armed meant that they were equipped with armor, a sword, and a shield. ...
