Zechariah 12:10 – “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.”
We have entered a new year. Our prophetic declaration for 2025 is “A Year of Abundant Grace.” John 1:16 from the ESV Bible reads, “For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.”This verse speaks to the belief that God's grace is not just a one-time gift but is continuously given, layer upon layer, in an ever-increasing measure.
The historical setting of Zechariah 12:10 speaks of the time when
Jesus returns bodily. This is His revelation, His second appearing. This is after the rapture when He comes with His saints at the end of the Great Tribulation to tread the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. At this second coming a fountain will be opened for Israel and she will accept her Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ, and all Israel shall be saved. This is a prophetic passage to be fulfilled at a later future time, but it is also a promise for us today.
The Scriptures introduce us to the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Trinity, through numerous names. Elmer Towns in his book, Names of the Holy Spirit, has identified 126 descriptive names of the Holy Spirit. John 14:16 says, “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.” He is known as the Helper, our Comforter, the Spirit of Promise, and many more names. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Grace and Supplication.
One of our greatest needs today is for God to pour out a Spirit of Grace
and Supplication without reserve upon His church. Grace in the Old Testament comes a Hebrew word which means, favor, kindness, charm, preciousness. Supplication is from a Hebrew word meaning earnest prayer, entreaty, supplication.
When a Spirit of Grace and Supplication touches a body of believers, they will no longer find fault with one another. They will no longer stand in judgment of others or gossip about their brothers and sisters in Christ. A Spirit of Grace and Supplication will cause us to love one another unconditionally just as Jesus loves us.
A Spirit of Grace and Supplication is a God given concern for the needs of our brothers and sisters in Christ. There will be a desire to pray for one another. James 5:16 says, “Pray for one another.” There will be a desire to bear one another’s burdens and a desire to care for one another in the love of God.
