Be Careful Little Ears What You Hear

James 1:9 - “So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.”

The Apostle James, the half-brother of our Lord, instructs us be “quick to listen.” There are many voices that compete for our attention. When I was young, we only had three television channels in our home. We had NBC, CBS, and ABC. I remember when we first signed up for cable, there were just a few channels. Today we have hundreds of channels along with YouTube and other internet streaming services. There are so many voices competing for our attention. Radio, internet radio, podcasts, and even shortwave radio all have voices competing for our attention.

When I was a child, we learned a song in Sunday School entitled, “Oh Be Careful Little Eyes What You See.” The second verse reads:

Oh, be careful, little ears, what you hear,
Oh, be careful, little ears, what you hear.
There’s a Father up above looking down in tender love,
Oh, be careful, little ears, what you hear.

Who has your attention? Whose voice are you listening to? Who has your ear?

John 8:37 says, “He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.”

We must be careful to hear the voice of the Lord. As believers, it is our responsibility to hear what the Spirit is saying to the church. Revelation 2:7 says, “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.”

There is a teaching in the Body of Christ that believes God has gone silent, and no longer speaks today. How do we know when God is speaking? I John 4:1 from the New Living Translation reads, “Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.”

We test the words in the Word of God. If we hear something contrary to the Scriptures, it is not God’s voice. Let me encourage you to spend time in the presence of the Lord. Pray and make your requests know to God and then be quiet and listen to the still small voice. When God speaks it will bear witness with our spirits. It will produce peace in our hearts and encourage us in our hearts.

Rebuilding the Broken Altar of Prayer

In Matthew 21: 12-13 , “ Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’” Jesus made this declaration, “My house shall be called a house of prayer!”  I believe that God is calling us back to the altar of prayer.  For several weeks the Lord has dealt with me about rebuilding the broken altar of prayer in our personal and corporate lives.  If we are going to see spiritual breakthrough in our churches and communities then we must rebuild and return to the altar of prayer. Wayman Rogers writes, “The ministry of prayer is the most important of all ministries in the church.  Prayer creates the atmosphere and binds the powers of darkness so the gospel of Jesus can go forward and the church can prosper....

The Fourth Month - The Month to See

In   1 Chronicles 12:32   we learn that the Sons of Issachar had an understanding of the times and knew what Israel ought to do.  Like the sons of Issachar, we need to have an understanding of the times.  We are in a time of uncertainty and fear, therefore we need prophetic insight into what God has for us and desires to do in our lives. For some time I have been praying and asking God to give me insight into how He moves in time. The Sons of Issachar were masters of the calendar.  In  Exodus 12:2  the Lord establishes the Hebrew calendar.  “This month shall be your beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you.”  The Hebrew calendar begins at Passover.  This is the calendar that God ordained and introduced in the Bible.  To better understand how God moves in times you can study the Hebrew calendar and the patterns that have been established in the Word of God.  Our Gregorian calendar is on a differ...

The Fifth Month - Av - The Month to Hear

--> The Fifth Month – Av The Month to Hear For a number of years I have been studying and praying for insight into how the Lord moves and works in time. We learn in 1 Chronicles 12:32 that the Sons of Issachar had an understanding of the times and knew what Israel ought to do.  They were masters of the Hebrew calendar.   In Exodus 12:2 the Lord established the Hebrew calendar. “This month shall be your beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you.” The Hebrew calendar begins at Passover in the month of Nissan.  This calendar was God ordained and introduced in the Bible.   To better understand how God moves in times you can study the Hebrew calendar and the patterns that have been established in the Word of God.  Our Gregorian calendar is on a different time cycle than the Word of God. The Bible refers to the month of Av as the fifth month counting from Passover.  It corresponds to the months of ...
