Galatians 5:1 – “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.”
On July 4, 2022, we celebrated our nation’s Independence from England. Many gathered with their families and friends to cook out, watch fireworks, and enjoy the holiday. While we enjoy this holiday, we must never forget the price that was paid for the freedoms we enjoy. Our nation is known as the home of the brave and the land of the free. We have wonderful freedoms and must continue to stand vigilant in prayer so the freedoms we hold dear are never taken away by a corrupt or controlling government.
The American Heritage Dictionary defines freedom as “The condition of not being in prison or captivity. The condition of being free of restraints, especially the ability to act without control or interference by another or by circumstance. The condition of not being controlled by another nation or political power; political independence.”
As believers, we have wonderful freedoms available to us through the blood of Jesus. Ephesians 1:7 says, “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” Sin ensnares and seeks to enslave. Romans 6:16 says, “Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?
One of the lies of the enemy is that we will always have to live in bondage. Sin seeks to build a throne. It seeks to rule and have dominion. The Apostle Paul wrote these encouraging words in Ephesians 1:20 – 21, “Which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.”
Every believer should live in freedom. Romans 6:14 says, “Sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.” Jesus Christ went to the cross of Calvary so that we might be free. Free from sin, free from guilt and shame, free from fear, and free from anything that would enslave or bring an individual into bondage.
