The WOW Factor

Psalms 147:5 – “Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.”

We serve an awesome God. When was the last time you said wow? We must be careful not to lose our awe of God. When we experience revival, we will recover our wow (our wonder of God). Why use the word wow? What is the WOW factor? The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines wow as “used to express strong feeling (such as the pleasure of surprise).”[1]

We are using WOW as an acrostic to define our mission personally and corporately going forward. We need to follow these three disciplines to be successful in our spiritual walk. The three priorities follow:

W – Word

We are a people of the Word. Our first call is to discipleship/spiritual formation. Jesus gave the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.”

The Bible is our guidebook as we make our pilgrimage of faith in the will of God. If you are to become strong in faith and grow in grace, you must give a prominent place in your life to the Word of God. We will make the Bible a priority both corporately and personally. The Psalmist wrote these beautiful words to describe the Word of God in Psalms 119:54, “Your statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage.”

O – Outreach

We live in a world of fake news, made up news, and bad news. We have good news. The word Gospel means good news. In John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” He spoke these powerful words in Luke 24:46 – 49, “Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,” And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And you are witnesses of these things.” Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” We are called to be witnesses of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Our witness may determine whether someone goes to heaven or hell.

W – Worship

Worship involves prayer, fasting, expressive praise, and thanksgiving. Reading and studying the Bible, giving, witnessing, and prayer are all elements of worship. Everything we do must be saturated in prayer. Matthew 6:6 says, “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”

Psalms 141:2 says, “Let my prayer be set before You as incense, The lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. God is calling our personal homes to become houses of prayer. When our personal house becomes a house of prayer our corporate house will become a house of prayer.

When we experience a visitation of God’s Spirit we will say, “wow.” We will make the word, outreach, and worship a priority.

Rebuilding the Broken Altar of Prayer

In Matthew 21: 12-13 , “ Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’” Jesus made this declaration, “My house shall be called a house of prayer!”  I believe that God is calling us back to the altar of prayer.  For several weeks the Lord has dealt with me about rebuilding the broken altar of prayer in our personal and corporate lives.  If we are going to see spiritual breakthrough in our churches and communities then we must rebuild and return to the altar of prayer. Wayman Rogers writes, “The ministry of prayer is the most important of all ministries in the church.  Prayer creates the atmosphere and binds the powers of darkness so the gospel of Jesus can go forward and the church can prosper....

The Shout of a King is Among Them

Numbers 23:21 - “He has not observed iniquity in Jacob, Nor has He seen wickedness in Israel. The Lord his God  is  with him, And the shout of a King  is  among them.” In this passage of Scripture, the king of Moab had hired the prophet Balaam to speak a curse over the children of Israel.   He saw Israel as a threat to his kingdom.   Numbers 22:2-3 – “Now Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites. And Moab was exceedingly afraid of the people because they were many, and Moab was sick with dread because of the children of Israel.” When the enemy sees the people of God rising up in faith, he becomes very concerned and moves to keep us from fulfilling our assignment.   We learn in Numbers, Balaam could only speak what the Lord gave him to speak.   Instead of a curse he speaks a blessing. The enemy seeks our destruction, but God!   Listen to the conversation between God and Satan in ...

They Turned Back in the Day of Battle

Psalms 78:9 – “ “The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.”             Ephraim was the younger of two sons of Joseph.   His first born was Manasseh.   It was Ephraim that received the blessing of Jacob.   The tribe of Ephraim became the largest of the ten northern tribes of Israel.   Many times the Bible used the name Ephraim to represent the whole nation of Israel.             In verse 9 they are armed and carrying bows.   They are dressed, equipped, and ready to battle.   Yet we learn that they turned back in the day of battle.   The Bible identifies this as sin.   To turn back in the day of battle was displeasing to God.               To be armed meant that they were equipped with armor, a sword, and a shield. ...
