James 5:16 - “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
In this passage the Apostle James reveals it is the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous individual that yields powerful results. Fervent prayer is passionate, zealous, and intense. It is prayer on fire. James 5:16 from The Amplified Bible reads, “Therefore, confess your sins to one another [your false steps, your offenses], and pray for one another, that you may be healed and restored. The heartfelt and persistent prayer of a righteous man (believer) can accomplish much [when put into action and made effective by God—it is dynamic and can have tremendous power].”
The Amplified Bible defines fervent prayer as dynamic, persistent, and powerful prayer. There is power in fervent, on fire, passionate prayer. James 5:16 from The Message Bible says, "The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with.”
We must fervently pursue the presence of God. Our prayers must take on a new urgency. We must cry out in the dry places we experience for an authentic touch of God. Samuel Chadwick said, “The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying. He fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless work, and prayerless religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom, but trembles when we pray.”
Fervent prayer is prayer from the heart. It is pouring out our needs and petitions before the throne of grace. Hebrews 4:16 defines fervent prayer, “ Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Fervent prayer will result in a greater hunger and thirst for the things of God. In Matthew 5:6 Jesus makes this powerful promise, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.” Fervent prayer produces wonderful results and draws us into greater intimacy in our walk and relationship with the Lord.
