Who is This Baby Born in Bethlehem

Christmas is a holiday that celebrates the arrival of a baby!  Not just any baby, but a special baby born in a small Middle-eastern village some two thousand years ago.  On that first Christmas night shepherds came to see this special baby lying in a manger.  The Magi from the East followed a bright star to the place of this child’s birth.

Who was this newborn infant?  Who was this baby born to a young unmarried teenage girl on a cold Judean winter’s night?  This baby was not just another baby born on this rebellious planet!  This baby was more than what was discernible with the human eyes.  The Word of God gives us insight into who this baby was:
Luke 2:8-14 says, ā€œAnd there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.  And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them:  and they were sore afraid.  And the angel of the Lord said unto them, fear not:  for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.  And this shall be a sign unto you; ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.ā€

It is as much a marvel today as it was two thousand years ago;  God the Father so approved of the one born on that first Christmas night in Bethlehem that He bid the angels to worship together. Who is the baby born in Bethlehem of Judea?  Who is this child born to the announcement of angels?  Who is this baby called the Christ of Christmas?

We learn in the Scriptures that He was the Christ, the Anointed One.  He was the promised Messiah.  Luke the Physician so eloquently writes, ā€œA Savior, which is Christ the Lord.ā€  The Bible gives us many names and titles that describe the Messiah.  Perhaps the greatest name is Savior.

Our sins have separated us from God.  Romans 3:23, ā€œFor all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.ā€  What is our remedy?  How do we overcome our sinful condition?  We need a Savior.  Jesus teaches in John 14:6, ā€œI am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.ā€

Who is this baby that was born to the worship of shepherds and wise men?  He is the Christ, the Anointed One, and our Savior.  Why not allow Him to become your Savior today?

Rebuilding the Broken Altar of Prayer

In Matthew 21: 12-13 , ā€œ Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, ā€œIt is written, ā€˜My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ā€˜den of thieves.ā€™ā€ Jesus made this declaration, ā€œMy house shall be called a house of prayer!ā€  I believe that God is calling us back to the altar of prayer.  For several weeks the Lord has dealt with me about rebuilding the broken altar of prayer in our personal and corporate lives.  If we are going to see spiritual breakthrough in our churches and communities then we must rebuild and return to the altar of prayer. Wayman Rogers writes, ā€œThe ministry of prayer is the most important of all ministries in the church.  Prayer creates the atmosphere and binds the powers of darkness so the gospel of Jesus can go forward and the church can prosper....

The Shout of a King is Among Them

Numbers 23:21 - ā€œHe has not observed iniquity in Jacob, Nor has He seen wickedness in Israel. The Lord his God  is  with him, And the shout of a King  is  among them.ā€ In this passage of Scripture, the king of Moab had hired the prophet Balaam to speak a curse over the children of Israel.   He saw Israel as a threat to his kingdom.   Numbers 22:2-3 – ā€œNow Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites. And Moab was exceedingly afraid of the people because they were many, and Moab was sick with dread because of the children of Israel.ā€ When the enemy sees the people of God rising up in faith, he becomes very concerned and moves to keep us from fulfilling our assignment.   We learn in Numbers, Balaam could only speak what the Lord gave him to speak.   Instead of a curse he speaks a blessing. The enemy seeks our destruction, but God!   Listen to the conversation between God and Satan in ...

They Turned Back in the Day of Battle

Psalms 78:9 – ā€œ ā€œThe children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.ā€             Ephraim was the younger of two sons of Joseph.   His first born was Manasseh.   It was Ephraim that received the blessing of Jacob.   The tribe of Ephraim became the largest of the ten northern tribes of Israel.   Many times the Bible used the name Ephraim to represent the whole nation of Israel.             In verse 9 they are armed and carrying bows.   They are dressed, equipped, and ready to battle.   Yet we learn that they turned back in the day of battle.   The Bible identifies this as sin.   To turn back in the day of battle was displeasing to God.               To be armed meant that they were equipped with armor, a sword, and a shield. ...
