Romans 8:37 – “Yet in all these
things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”
We
experience overcoming power through the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans
8 is called the chapter of the Holy Spirit.
There are numerous references to the Holy Spirit in Romans 8. Verse 11 reads, “But if the Spirit of Him who
raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead
will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in
you.” The Apostle Paul continues in verse 14, “For as many as are led by the
Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”
We learn
in verses 26-27 that the Holy Spirit helps us pray, “Likewise the Spirit also
helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we
ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which
cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the
Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will
of God.”
Verse 37
says, “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who
loved us.” To be more than a conqueror is to live and walk in total
victory. The Holy Spirit empowers us to
be overcomers. 1 John 5:4 says, “For
whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has
overcome the world—our faith.”
The
following Scriptures instruct us on how the Holy Spirit empowers us to become overcomers:
•
John 16:33 – “These things I have spoken to you,
that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be
of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
•
Romans 12:21 – “Do not be overcome by evil, but
overcome evil with good.”
•
Revelation 12:11 – “And they overcame him by the
blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love
their lives to the death.”
•
James 4:7 – “Therefore submit to God. Resist the
devil and he will flee from you.”
•
1 John 4:4 - “You are of God, little children, and
have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the
world.”
II Peter
5:8 says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about
like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” The Holy Spirit empowers us to overcome every
adversary opposing us. Verse 9 instructs
us to “resist him steadfast in the faith.”
