John 14:16-17 – “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”
All of us have things we are asking God to change in our lives; a lost loved-one who needs salvation, a physical need or disease needing healing, a financial issue, or some other pressing need. There are many things we face that we have no ability to change. The good news is there is someone who has the ability to bring the needed change.
Life is filled with changes. We need God’s guidance and direction to navigate these changes. Joshua 1:9 says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Jesus promises the Holy Spirit will “guide you into all truth” (John 15:13).
There is power in relationship. One relationship can forever change the direction of our lives. In John 14:17 Jesus makes a profound statement. He reveals that it is possible to have a relationship with the Holy Spirit. In the last part of this verse He says, “But you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”[1] Raymond Culpepper writes in Understanding the Ministry of the Holy Spirit writes, “God’s Word affirms that it is a normative practice for Christians to experience a dynamic personal relationship with the Holy spirit; there will be something lacking when that relationship is absent.”[2]
The Holy Spirit seeks out a relationship with us so He can encourage us and give us guidance in every part of our lives. He longs to reveal Himself to us so He can supply our inner man with strength from above. II Corinthians 4:16 says,” the inner man is being renewed day by day.” He longs to communicate with us. He desires to give us direction, to reveal God’s plans for our lives, and to help us to understand and grasp God’s Word. He will speak to us about the Lord Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is a divine person. One meeting with the Holy Spirit will change everything.
