Ephesians 4:16 – “From whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.”
The Bible refers to the New Testament Church as the Body of Christ. Jesus is the head and every member makes up the different parts of the Body of Christ. All of us are different, but we are needed to fulfill the mission the Lord has assigned to us. Romans 12:4-5 says, “For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function. So we being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.”
When we pray to receive Christ as our personal Lord and Savior we are connected to Christ. II Corinthians 5:17 says, “If anyone is in Christ He is a new creation; old things pass away; behold, all things become new.” We become connected to Christ by relationship. We become a part of the family of God. We are adopted into the family of God. Romans 8:14-17 says, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. The Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are the children of God, and if children, then heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”
The Bible reveals God through different names and titles. There are relational titles that refer to God and our relationship to Him. James 1:17 refers to Him as “the Father of Lights.” In Matthew 6:9 Jesus taught us to pray, “Our Father in heaven.” In Romans 8:14 we are called the “sons of God.” Jesus is referred to as our Elder Brother and Kinsman Redeemer. We are heirs and joint-heirs with Christ.
There are numerous benefits that result from our connection to God through relationship. We can be free from guilt and condemnation. Romans 8:1 reads, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” We have access to our Father. Hebrews 4:16 encourages us to “come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
There are many benefits available to us through our relationship with the Lord. Here are just a few examples: Peace with God, a healing covenant, the promise of His second coming, prosperity, and abundant life, assurance of salvation, and joy.
