A New Year
brings new hope. It provides an
opportunity to make a new start. Most
people use this time to make “New Year’s Resolutions.” My prayer for you is that
this will be a year of new beginnings. A
great way to start the year off right is to resolve to put God first in every
area of your life. Matthew 6:33
encourages, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all
these things shall be added to you.”
Someone
once told me, “God is no longer doing anything new.” They quoted Ecclesiastes 1:9, “There is
nothing new under the sun.” We must not
limit God to just what we have experienced in the past. He is a creative God who does things
differently and in new ways. In Jeremiah
31:31 the prophet speaks of a time when God will make a new covenant with His
people.
The Lord
longs to do new things in our lives. In this new year, He longs to open new
doors of opportunities and release new resources. If we are going to make our
relationship with the Lord a priority, we must ask the Lord to do two new
things in this coming year.
First, we need to
ask God for a new revelation of the Word of God. The Bible is not just another book. It is not one of the classics of
literature. It is a living book. It is the inspired Word of the living God. 2 Timothy 3:16 reads, “All Scripture is given
by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction, for instructions in righteousness.”
The Apostle Paul prayed in Ephesians 1:17, “That the God of our Lord
Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and
revelation in the knowledge of Him.”
Second, we need a
fresh new anointing for the coming year.
Yesterday’s anointing will not be sufficient for the battles we will
face. We will need a new anointing to
defeat the giants we are going to encounter in the new season ahead. The anointing is cultivated through our daily
devotional life. David received the
giant killing anointing by spending time in communion and fellowship with the
Lord while he was shepherding his father’s sheep.
