1 Peter 1:18-19 – “Knowing that you
were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or
gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from
your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish
and without spot.”
The Bible
introduces us to the miraculous power of God. There are numerous inexplicable
miracles recorded on the pages of the Old and New Testament. We witness the
miracle of creation in the very first verses of the first book of the
Bible. Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning
God created the heavens and the earth.”
There are
miracles of nature, healing, deliverance, and provision. Jesus performed many
miracles. He opened blinded eyes, made
the lame to walk, healed the sick, and raised the dead. We serve a miracle
working God. He releases His supernatural power on behalf of those who love and
serve Him.
It is
wonderful to rehearse the many mighty miracles God has worked, but what is the
greatest miracle. The greatest miracle
is salvation. The greatest miracle takes place when a sinner confesses their
sins and prays to receive Christ as their Lord and Savior. II Corinthians 5:17
tells us, “Therefore, if anyone is in
Christ, he is a new
creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
When we
experience salvation we are forgiven, our sins are pardoned, and we are placed
into the family of God. In Galatians 3:13 the Apostle Paul teaches, “Christ has
redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is
written, ‘cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.)’”
In Luke
19:10 Jesus gave us a glimpse of His mission, “The Son of Man has come to seek
and to save that which was lost.” The greatest miracle takes place when we are
delivered out of the kingdom of darkness and conveyed into the kingdom of God. At
salvation we are redeemed from the market place of sin. The Apostle Peter wrote
in 1 Peter 2:10 concerning what happens when we experience the miracle of
salvation, “who once were not
a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained
mercy but now have obtained mercy.”
Every miracle is to be celebrated, but the greatest miracle
is celebrated in heaven when a sinner prays to receive Jesus as Lord and
Savior. Luke 15:10 teaches, “Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the
presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
