Loneliness is a natural, common emotion that can be experienced even when
we are surrounded with people. The susceptibility to this impression begins as
a subconscious awareness and response to a combination of factors occurring in
everyday life ranging from stress to unfulfilled expectations of self and
others.
While there may seem to be justifiable reasons for the feelings, the
enemy is always looking for an opportunity to snare us emotionally in order to
isolate and defeat us.
Instead, we can allow these catalysts for defeat to become opportune
times to grow in character. Spending one-on-one time with God will bring
satisfaction from the duration and intensity of such teachable moments.
First, we must know we are never alone. The word “lonely” describing
people never appears in the New Testament. Jesus said in Matthew 28:20, “And be
sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” The Scriptures
remind us that we will never be left nor forsaken. Deuteronomy 31:8 – “It is
the Lord Who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or
forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Hebrews 13:5 – “For God has said, ‘I
will never leave you nor forsake you.’”
Second, we should ask for wisdom. Wisdom produces truth. Allowing the Spirit of Truth, the Holy
Spirit, to judge our frustration of loneliness realigns us with Him and His
evaluation of us. The truth being that we are loved by God; we are chosen; we
are always accepted. Only agreeing with Him will give our life the significance
we desire.
Third, we must move forward. We should weigh our ambitions and desires.
Then, ask God to dismantle anything that will not bring a positive outcome
within His perfect will. God’s
expectations will become our expectations, producing feelings of satisfaction, knowing
we are on an ever-increasing path of success. After all, God cannot fail. As
the Lord is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17).
Staying focused in truth increases faith. Faith creates a new outcome and
interrupts any cycle of defeat the enemy designs. Never defeated! Never alone!
