Give Me My Mountain
One of the most fascinating stories
in the Old Testament is the story of Caleb.
It is a story of victory, perseverance, and reward. It teaches that God
keeps His Word to the believer who stays faithful to Him. Caleb realized His prophetic
promise when he was 85 years old. He experienced a long delay, but he was not
denied. Joshua 24:12 records his words, “Now
therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day.” This
mountain was his promised inheritance. Like Caleb, you have a promised
inheritance.
What is your promised
inheritance? Psalms 2:8 reveals
one of the promises, “Ask of Me and I will give you the nations as your
inheritance, and the ends of the earth as your possession.” A part
of your inheritance is the harvest that God has appointed for you to reap. I
believe many of you are like Caleb. You have carried long term promises that
God has kept for this hour, and is now going to bring them forth.
You must allow the
Lord to bring you into your promise and to empower you to take your mountain. Do
not miss the opportunity that God will give you in this season of time. This is
your time to move through the open door. Revelation 4:1 reads, “After these things I looked, and behold, a door
standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet
speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must
take place after this.”
This is your time to seek the
Lord for revelation concerning your assignment in this season. Some time ago I
heard someone say, “Assignment means inheritance or lot.” Your assignment is
your inheritance. The assignment is to possess your promise and to help
establish the kingdom of God in this region.
In examining the life of Caleb
there are some valuable lessons about how to possess your promised inheritance.
Caleb's actions reveal the following about moving into your promised possession
and seeing the realization of your prophetic promises.
Caleb refused to give up on the
promises of God. In the thirteenth chapter of Numbers, Moses chose twelve men
who were key leaders to go in and spy out the land. Ten of these twelve men
came back with an evil report. Only two, Joshua and Caleb, came back with a
good report. Ten of the twelve became infected with fear, while Joshua and
Caleb chose to believe the promise of God.
The result of the unbelief of
the ten was that the children of Israel never realized their promised
inheritance. They died in the wilderness without ever entering into the
Promised Land. When the twelve spies returned, ten told the children of Israel,
“We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and
this is its fruit. Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong;
the cities are fortified and very large; moreover we saw the descendants of
Anak there. The Amalekites dwell in the land of the South; the Hittites, the
Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by
the sea and along the banks of the Jordan.” Caleb's response is in verse 30, “Then
Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, ‘Let us go up at once and take
possession, for we are well able to overcome it.’”
In the fourteenth chapter of Numbers
you learn that Israel missed their moment. They failed to enter into their
promised inheritance by faith. They believed the majority report of unbelief.
The result was only two people from that generation were able to enter into the
Promised Land. Caleb understood the timing of God. He understood the promises
of God and was willing to move out by faith to possess his promise.
Forty-five years later Caleb is
still holding on to the promise that God made to him. In Joshua
14:7-9 Caleb stands ready to possess his inheritance. “I was forty
years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy
out the land, and I brought back word to him as it was in my heart.”
“Nevertheless my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people
melt, but I wholly followed the Lord my God.” “So Moses swore on that day,
saying, Surely the land where your foot has trodden shall be your inheritance
and your children’s forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.”
Caleb was delayed, but he was
not denied. He refused to let go of his prophetic promise. Like Caleb you are a
people of promise. You have a promise from God. Others may give into fear.
Others may miss their moment, but like Caleb you must be faithful and persevere
until you realize the fulfillment of your prophetic promises.
