An Invitation, Instruction, and Inheritance

An Invitation, Instruction, and Inheritance
Part Two of Three – Instruction
Colossians 3:1-4
The first four verses of Colossians chapter three are very powerful Scriptures.  They teach us valuable lessons about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and how to live an overcoming life.  In these four verses there is an invitation, an instruction, and a promise of an inheritance for the believer in Christ.
In verse 1 the Apostle Paul gives an invitation to the believer.  We are invited to share in the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  The invitation is to enter into new life through Christ. Verse 1 reads, “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.”
The Apostle gives two instructions in the first two verses of chapter three.  He is instructing us concerning our priorities.  We are encouraged to “seek those things which are above,” and to “set our affections on things above, and not on the things of this earth.”  We are to set our hearts to seek the Lord.  Matthew 6:33 reads,  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
The Apostle tells us that we need to have a heavenly mindset.  The enemy of our soul wars against our mind in order to rob us of our peace and contentment in Christ.  He uses accusations and lies that are designed to pull you away from God and into discouragement. Today’s battle is waged in and against our minds. His desire is to cloud and confuse your thinking.  As a man thinks in his heart so is he. (Proverbs 23:7)
My prayer for you today is that God will give you a Romans 12:2 mind, which is a renewed mind. May He give you what Romans 8:6 calls a peaceful mind.  In Hebrews 8:10, we learn that we can have an obedient mind. If your enemy can get you into worry and fear then He can keep you from ministering to others and fulfilling the purposes of God in our lives.
Are you tired of disillusionment, discouragement, and depression warring against your mind?  Then why not set your affections on things above and ask the Lord to renew your mind as you worship and spend time in His Word.
