The Camels Are Coming
Genesis
24:10 – “Then
the servant took ten of his master’s camels and departed, for all his master’s
goods were in his hand. And he
arose and went to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nahor.”
The Twenty Fourth
chapter of Genesis is one of the most beautiful chapters in the Old Testament.
It is filled with beautiful types, and pictures of the Father’s love for His
Son, and His concern with finding Him a bride. It is an Old Testament picture of what takes
place today. We are the bride that
Father God is seeking for His beloved Son.
In Genesis 24 Abraham, commissioned his
servant Eliezar to go and find a bride for His son. He loaded ten camels with provisions and sent
his most trusted servant on a mission to secure a bride for his son,
Isaac. We learn in verse 10 that Eliezar
took ten camels loaded with gifts to be a dowry and journeyed to the city of
Nahor. Nahor is located in Mesopotamia,
which is modern day Iraq.
It was there in
the city of Nahor that Eliezar prayed and asked God to guide him to the future
wife of his master’s son, Isaac. He
asked that as a sign to know which one was to be Isaac’s wife, that she would
allow him to have a drink of water and to offer to water all of his camels.
And it happened
before he finished praying, Rebekah approached him about a drink and offered to
water all of the camels. This was not
just another ordinary day in Rebekah’s life.
She had a destiny. Her destiny
was to become the mother of a multitude.
She didn’t know that this meeting by the well would forever change her
life. She experienced a “suddenly”
moment.
In a moment’s
notice her life changed. An ordinary day
became an extraordinary day. This man
with ten camels gave her exquisite gifts and asked to meet her family. In Verses
37-38 Elieazar explains his mission.
“Now
my master made me swear, saying, ‘You shall not take a wife for my son from the
daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell; but you shall go to my
father’s house and to my family, and take a wife for my son.’”
These camels were
carrying something precious. The camels were loaded with provisions and they
were going to be used to bring Rebekah into her prophetic destiny. The camel was viewed as the pickup truck of
the desert. They were sturdy animals and could carry eight hundred pounds each,
traveling twenty-five miles a day.
In verse 60 we learn, “Then
Rebekah and her maids arose, and they rode on the camels and followed the man.
So the servant took Rebekah and departed.”
These same ten camels that had
brought gifts, wealth, and provisions to Rebekah and her family, were now being
used by God to bring her to her promised bridegroom.
If
you will follow God and be faithful to Him, He has the right place, the right
time, the right people, and the right circumstances for you. The camels are coming. They have your provision and God will use
them to bring you into your divine destiny.
Your camels are
coming.
