Deuteronomy 30:19 teaches us that God has set before us both blessings and curses. Disobedience to the Word of God will bring a curse upon our lives. Malachi 3:9 teaches us that a failure to tithe on our income will bring a divine curse. Malachi the prophet told Israel that they were under a curse because they had refused to bring their tithes and offerings to the Lord.
As believers we have the responsibility of being obedient stewards of the resources that God has entrusted to each of us. In order to be obedient we must be faithful to bring our tithe and offerings into the storehouse. Leviticus 27:32 reads, “…The tenth (tithe) shall be holy unto the Lord.” Leviticus 27: 30-34 teaches us that the tithe belongs to the Lord. Malachi 3:10 instructs us to “bring all the tithes into the storehouse…” To obey the precepts of God’s Word brings blessings into our lives. To disobey brings a curse. When we give to God what He requires from a thankful heart then we will be blessed in the following ways:
- We become the Lords treasured possession. (Dt. 26:18) NIV
- He sets us in praise, fame and honor high above all the nations He has made. (DT. 26:19)
- Our barns are filled with plenty and our vats overflow with new wine. (Prov. 3:10) NIV
- A generous man will prosper. (Prov. 11:25) NIV
- We don’t have room enough to receive the blessings He gives (Mal. 3:10) NIV
- He opens the floodgates of heaven and pours out blessings. (Ma. 3:10)
- He rebukes the devourer for our sakes. (Mal. 3:11) NIV
- He protects our investments and the fruits of our labors. (Mal. 3:11) NIV
- He makes all grace abound to us enabling us to have all that we need. (II Cor. 9:8) NIV
- He supplies all of our needs. (Phil. 4:19) NIV
God sets before you blessings or curses. We must choose. Will you choose to be obedient to His holy Word? You obey His Word by bringing your tithes (one-tenth of your income) into the storehouse. The storehouse is the New Testament Church. II Corinthians 9:7 says “…God loves a cheerful giver..” Will you become a cheerful giver today and choose His blessings upon your life? A failure will bring His displeasure.

I tithe because I love Jesus and He has commanded me to tithe. When I began to tithe in obedience to God's word, I discovered that I could trust His promises. He has provided financially and otherwise when there seemed to be "no way." He is faithful. He is Jehovah-jireh, my provider. Hallelujah!
God also commanded OT Israel to obey over 600 commands, including tithing. These include KILLILNG disobedient children as in Ex 21:15, 17. God also commanded recipients of the Levitical tithe NOT to own property in Num 18:21-28. Why is that part of the tithe law ignored?
According to Paul in Gal 3:10, if we are going to attempt to be righteous through works of the law then we must observe all 600+ of it.
NT giving commanded to the Church after Calvary is primarily sacrificial giving. To many that means much more than 10% and to others it is less –as long as it is sacrificial. 2nd Cor 8:1-15; 9:6-7
