Loneliness is a natural, common emotion that can be experienced even when we are surrounded with people. The susceptibility to this impression begins as a subconscious awareness and response to a combination of factors occurring in everyday life ranging from stress to unfulfilled expectations of self and others. While there may seem to be justifiable reasons for the feelings, the enemy is always looking for an opportunity to snare us emotionally in order to isolate and defeat us. Instead, we can allow these catalysts for defeat to become opportune times to grow in character. Spending one-on-one time with God will bring satisfaction from the duration and intensity of such teachable moments. First, we must know we are never alone. The word “lonely” describing people never appears in the New Testament.
