Matthew 6:19-21 – “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroys and where thieves break in and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasure in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will also be.” There is a popular bumper sticker that reads, “He who dies with the most toys wins.”   We have entered into the season that celebrates the birth of our Lord.   What do most children say when you ask them, “what do you want under the Christmas tree?”   They will almost always answer, “Toys.”   Over the next couple of weeks parents will shop to find the special toy that was requested by their child.   They will look for a particular game or the most popular toys.   It is reported that toy sales in the United States generated over 18 billion dollars in 2014. Luke 2:11 – “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” When my wife and I were first dating I would bring her different gifts to express my feelings for her. I usually wrapped the gifts in the comic section of the Sunday newspaper or used some type of sales circular or printed paper. The wrapping paper was inexpensive and there was no beautiful ribbons or bows. We are entering into the Christmas season. This is a festive time that will be filled with family gatherings and Christmas shopping for our family and the ones we love.   For many in our secular society this season has become about little more than ribbons and bows. It is about elaborate presents wrapped in beautiful paper with colorful ribbons and bows. The first gift of Christmas was not wrapped in beautiful ribbons and bows. Heavenly Father, We exalt You, Lord God, knowing You are merciful, gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth (Exodus 34:6).   Our hope is in You as the Head of all things (Ephesians 1:22). We honor You and give You preeminence (Colossians 2). On behalf of the United States of America, we make an appeal to heaven.   We repent of iniquity through covenant breaking, idolatry, abortion, and immorality. Reconnect, reposition, and realign us for progress and success as we renew our stand for Christ in opposition of political correctness and trends in humanism and socialism (Ephesians 1:17-23). Draw us back to Godly standards. Cause a renewed emphasis favoring Christian values (1 Corinthians 6:9-20; Titus 2:12). Let the revelation of Your word, written and spoken, have its perfect work as You grant us wisdom, knowledge, and understanding concerning Your kingdom purposes and covenant privileges (2 Samuel 22:31).
